I am the DRE at my parish and am trying to plan VBS. I was horrified to find out that we have been using Protestant VBS programs since we are in a Protestant area (they didn't want to offend any Protestant kids that might come). Our pastor suggested doing the Catholic version of the Group.com VBS. Has anyone had experience with this? I was looking at this and this. Have any of you used these? My pastor is very liberal and I am not sure I could sell him on something really Catholic. I would love any advice you can give me or any experience you have with any of these programs. Thank you!

We've used the K4J.org programs for two years now, after doing the Catholic versions of groupVBS for many years at our parish. My husband took this on as our project and it's been wonderful. We plan to use this supplier again this year, as well.
The family that does this is very nice to work with.... he'll talk your head off. Which I'm known for as well..

We loved the Cat Chat programs. But several of our families (including mine) were already familiar with the cds (which are wonderful btw if you're looking for anything like that)
We really liked that it's very much an out of the box program. We had a lot of experienced teachers but they all felt it was nice because there was so little extra you had to do.. just show up and follow the program.
I did the music class. We used the video with the songs and it was fun. All you needed to be was willing and able to sing along and follow some of the simple movements they did with the songs. Though the boys, especially, once we got to the older ages were giving me the sideways "do we really have to do this" sorta looks. So I told them that they were the older kids and yep, they had to learn the songs so they could be good examples for the younger kids and proceded and we had fun.

I really like the looks of this Cat Chat VBS. Has anyone done this one? We have a lot more little kids than big kids.

I've not used the Cat Chat, though I've heard some of the CDs.
My favorite Catholic VBS options are the CHC retreats. Very adaptable for varying sizes and VERY Catholic ;)

We have done all the CatChats and they work well for us. We wrote our own for this year, based on the seven habits of the Year of Faith that our DRE liked, but if I would have found the Vatican program in the Catholic KidzCamp one you linked before we did the work, I would have wanted to check that out. It seems very appropriate for this year, as many kids will be seeing and hearing more about the Pope and Vatican than they usually do.

I had some concerns several years ago with facets of the group vbs totallly Catholic version.. and didn't put my son in it. But looking back I'm betting my parish didn't use those aspects as they were extra. Probably it was just fine. Last year my two oldest did it and really enjoyed it. I'd love if they would do a cat chat or other more Catholic VBS, but all the volunteer adults are orthodox and I know really emphasize the Catholic aspects. My kids had fun. So since you are running it, if you do the Group one, I'm sure you can maintain some control. The coordinator at my parish is more comfortable with Group/OSV as she's been doing it so long. So, just to say if that's what you end up using I'm sure it will work just fine. The music is catchy and my kids enjoyed it. If you can do something completely Catholic like Cat.Chat or CHC or the other one you linked, that's even better!
