Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wish that that there was a "Lent in Ephesus" cd! I have searched in vain for a single cd of Lenten hymns - so I am thinking of just downloading a few individual Lenten hymns/music for us to listen to. What would you include?

I have the following on my list:

O Sacred Head Surrounded
Stabat Mater
Pange Lingua
Parce Domine
Saint Matthew's Passion
Adoramus te Christe

According to the popular story (backed up by family letters), the fourteen-year-old Mozart was visiting Rome, when he first heard the piece during the Wednesday service. Later that day, he wrote it down entirely from memory, returning to the Chapel that Friday to make minor corrections.

The Cambridge Singers (John Rutter) has a good collection of sacred music.....good ones for Lent in here. And, John Rutter/Cambridge Choir you can't go wrong!! Love them!

This is an inexpensive album: Virtuoso Series: Allegri Miserere / Tallis Lamentations of Jeremiah & Other Renaissance Masterpieces.

And when I think of Lent music, my first response is still what I wrote for the first link above:

JennGM wrote:
The Lenten Liturgy isn't really characterized by music.

From the GIRM: In Lent the playing of the organ and musical instruments is allowed only to support the singing. Exceptions are Laetare Sunday (Fourth Sunday of Lent), Solemnities, and Feasts.

But of course our homes don't necessarily reflect that. I'm making a round-about point that there isn't an emphasis on hymns during Lent, but silence.

I love the "I Thirst" Lenten CD by Catholic singer Tatiana (or Tajci in Croatian). There are some super powerful hymns on here...and originals. It is sung almost chronologically according to Christ's passion. I love her voice--clear and powerful.

I haven't hear this CD of hers, but I saw her give her witness talk about 12 years ago. I almost when into labor at the talk....

She has an AMAZING voice....no auto tune for this girl. She is the real deal. Anyway, I just wanted to add a plug for Titiana!
