Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello,

I am looking for books for my son (11) that teach values and how to be a young man from a Catholic prespective. There is numerous books on this topic for girls like Sewing with St. Anne and Tea & Cakes with the Saints. But nothing for boys.

I found this one Tin Cups & Tinder: A Catholic Boy's Little Book of Fire, Food & Fun from Marcia from I Wonder Why blog (thank you) I am sorry I am not sure how do links. Does anyone have any advice.

I am trying to convenice my husband that he needs to write books on this topic but doesn't feel he is adequate enough. As far I am concern is more then enough and very qualified. I think he just dosen't know where to start.

Any advice on that topic would also be greatly appreciated.

We also have:

Young Man's Handybook (sold through CHC)

Squire and the Scroll (the original story AND the companion book)

The Bush Boys books are not entirely what I expected - they are way more and way better (I thought it was just a story.... it is character-development, outdoor skills and more).

Now, perhaps it is because my son spends a significant amount of time with two teenage girls; but he has enjoyed Sewing with St. Anne and Tea and Cake with the Saints - we just make some things a bit more "boy-ish" is all ;)

Thank you for book ideas.

I son the Bush Boys. My love will love them

I should have also said anything written by a man. All boys I have found are written by women. I am sorry if I am being picky but I am entering a whole new world.

I grew up with sisters and very strong dad who hunted, fished, rebuiltd engines and provided a home. I now have a son who is starting purberty and I have no ideas how to offer him good books that teach him what it means to be godly, Catholic man. Lucky for me my husband is like my dad in the way that matter (not a hunter or fisherman) but a good man who provides and a strong Catholic man.

Thank you for your advice. I will look at the other ones too.

God Bless,

Beth

Beth,

I myself prefer male authors for boys books - there is a difference in the writing style, in the lay-out - that just stands out for my son and he feels like "this is for real" - like a real man is talking to HIM. It's a huge difference!

CatholicMommy,

That is exactly how I feel. It makes me feel so much better that I am not alone.

Thank you so much.
