Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you prefer the Mary Fabian Windeatt, the Encounter the Saints, or the Vision Books Saint Biographies?

Well, for me this is a trick question. There are different reading levels in all three. Windeatt and Encounter are lower, and Vision is a bit higher...and longer books.

I love the Vision by far.

I do not like Windeatt at all. It's a personal preference -- I find her syrupy sweet and do not like her style.

I prefer the older version of Encounter Books by the Daughters of St. Paul. This is my favorite series for saints. I love the line drawings and the writing. The newer series is revised and new illustrations. The plus on the new series is that there are new saints. I haven't read through them all to know if I think they are well-done. So far the track record for Pauline Books lately is that the books are not well-written when they are done by the Americans.

They have another series, it's harder to find, but "Along the Paths of the Gospel" I think was originally written by the French Daughters of St. Paul, and have been translated. I might be wrong, but I like these much better. I just bought a 5-pack for $14 at IHM from Seton. These are hardback and nice read alouds, and the pictures are sweet. I really like that they are hardbound -- that was the other appealing thing of the old Encounter series.

I bought the St. Vincent after our pilgrimage to Mother Seton Shrine and my mom read it to the boys on our trip back. My mother and I were impressed, and we both learned quite a bit new information.
