Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Saint Patrick's Summer is unavailable but the new printing is due out May 30th according to the Sophia Press site.

Now, I know enough about publishing to know that the date could be a completely arbitrary guess and it might be available then or not.

According to Chrisitan Books, they will have it available to ship June 13th.

And Amazon doesn't even have it as a back order option, only used. The used copies are EXPENSIVE!

Now, Amazon has a kindle book for $10, but I really didn't want this as a kindle book.

DS is making his FHC on July 1, and I had been wanting to have it to read leading up to it, starting at the beginning of this month when he finished his catechism.

But now I'm thinking that we won't really have time to read it before then if I don't get it soon, certainly not if it is mid June instead of end of May.

It just seems SO perfect as a prelude to FHC, though I haven't read the whole things myself.

Should I just get the kindle to read now and hope for finding an inexpensive used copy down the road once the book is available again? Should I wait and hold out for May 30? Or should I just resolve myself to the fact that it would be good to read even after FHC.

Gah! One of those things you just never think you need to buy ahead of time, yk?

In my opinion, the print edition isn't nice enough to make the idea of a kindle edition totally loathsome to me - it feels a bit like a vanity published book, iykwim.

We did buy it to use before FHC but to be honest it flopped here. I think the fact that so much of it is long stretches of dialogue that is quite complicated and dense made it feel not like a story book, but because it was presented like a story book our kids expected an adventure and therefore found it boring. I personally would just snag a copy whenever you see one 2nd hand at a good price - without worrying about getting it before FHC.

(we really liked My Path to Heaven, for thinking and discussing before FHC, for what it is worth....)

I think it is a better read for older kids, too. And agree that the print copy is nothing special. You wouldn't lose anything by getting a Kindle copy.
I wish I had known you needed it a week ago, I could have sent you my copy. But at this point it is all packed up for at least a few weeks.

I started this book as a read aloud with dd11 and dd8. They finished their Seton Religion for Young Catholics books, and I thought this would be a good "bridge" for catechism this summer. I don't know how much dd8 "gets." She is the child who looks like she is a million miles away, and then days later comes out with an almost verbatim account- or still looks clueless!

Last night, dd 11 looked shocked as we read about the Persons of the Trinity. "You never explained it that way before!" she said in a rather accusing tone. "That makes so much more sense!" I called my husband at a conference in a panic (my former Baptist self was panicking, I think ), "MM says she understands the Trinity - what have I done wrong?" He told me she had a more scholastic mind, and I needed to go read Theology and Sanity. I told him right now I am learning a lot from SPS!

I got this on the Kindle, but I would prefer to have it in print. Some of the chapters seem longer than dd8's attention span. I think it would be easier to look ahead and find good stopping places with a print book. Of course the way I lose books around here, maybe I am better off with the Kindle version!

The print version is available at Sacred Heart Books for around $12.50 in case anyone is still looking for a copy.
