My son is home from college. He said that it hadn't felt like Lent at college because college life just went on. (It's Christendom so of course, they have Mass, meatless Fridays etc.) But he said that at home, Lent has a 'Lenty' feel. He felt like Christmas was sprung on him because he wasn't here for Advent.
I thought that spoke volumes about the importance of our Domestic churches.
It also occurred to me that I really have the ladies here to thank and the ladies from the old days on the old Charlotte Mason list. We are all learning together how to combat the culture through strong, faithful Catholic life in our homes.
Bravo moms!

My son was saying something very similar! In fact, he's glad he's home because he has more meal options. We all give up meat and poultry for lent. There is a vegetarian option at college, but he wants his fish and seafood! I told him to eat as much seafood as possible before he goes back to school on Sunday.

On Sunday after Mass, the Ladies Guild was selling homemade Easter Decorations, colored eggs, hand stitched table runners... After commenting how lovely everything was(and I tell you, these ladies are talented!), I said the fresh leaves and flowers would perish before Easter, therefore , before I need them... and the eggs! oje! 2 older women then asked me how I do my seasonal home decorations. "...Lent is lent and Easter begins on Easter continuing..." gently worded of course. The ladies paused and looked at me, then responded. " Oh, just like we used to do it." And puzzled they walked away.
I am truly thankful for you 4real families!

Bridget,
This seems to speak so profoundly to the atmosphere of your home! In small and significant ways, when our Domestic Church mirrors Holy Mother Church, something noticeable takes place. And I suppose we see it in our homes at the time, certainly, but your post really spoke to me about how much a part of the atmosphere this mirroring and *taking back the culture* permeates. There is a permanence to it so that now, in college, your son looks for that atmosphere mirroring Holy Mother Church.

So true. And it happens in those quiet, ordinary moments: the time spent, the Church seasons observed, family traditions rediscovered and anchored to the Church year. These are the years of investment, and you are beginning to see the payoff! Thanks be to God!
I'm so grateful you took the time to post and encourage us, Bridget!
Bravo Moms, indeed!
