Hello,
A friend is traveling this summer and was asking about monasteries that might offer accomodations for a family. Our dear priest is leaving this week to go to Clear Creek Monastery (he is an F.S.S.P. priest and will become a Benedictine monk if things go well), so we know about that monastery.
Her family will be traveling from San Diego to Atlanta mostly on Interstate 40. Then up to Erie, PA (not sure exactly which route). Then over to Chicago and on to Yellowstone and Portland and back to San Diego.
Does anyone know of something like this? I know she would prefer a place that is faithful to Catholic teachings, etc. I visited a monastery last summer that I could not recommend. :(
I will try to do some research online. There must be a site that lists them.
Thanks!

My immediate thought was Clear Creek! But you already mentioned it. It is so beautiful and peaceful and the monks are so joyful...I could go on and on. Who is your priest? We attend the TLM with the Fraternity as well.

Erica, what about Hanceville, AL? There are no accomadations for families on the grounds per se, but there are apartments nearby to rent. If your friends call EWTN pilgrimage dept. they can give recommendations. The grounds and monastery are beautiful and very large.
More importantly, you can count on the fidelity to Holy Mother Church.

Thank you, Stephanie.
I found this list, but it doesn't look updated.
Monasteries in the United States
And, I know these are not all faithful to Holy Mother Church, but it is a start. I hope to start clicking on the links and coming up with a list.
Another friend mentioned Our Lady of the Snows (or something like that) in Illinois.
Our Fraternity priest is Father Dennis Gordon. He has two brothers who are priests, maybe both Fraternity priest, too, but I'm not positive. He will be greatly missed!
We hope to travel from San Diego to Michigan this year and should go right by Clear Creek. We hope to stay there.

I am originally from the Belville diocese in Illinois where Our Lady of the Snows is located. My father used to make regular retreats there. One year he went with his father and his oldest son for a retreat. I would love to visit there one day.

Check out this monastery, in the heart of Chicago:
http://chicagomonk.org/
It looks like a faithful monastery, although I don't have any first-hand experience. I know their prices for overnight lodging in their B&B are very reasonable and they really aim to accommodate larger families.

my mother is an oblate at Idaho's St. Gertrude's and they recently opened an inn for travelers on the grounds. I'm not sure it would be on your friend's route, but I just had to give them a plug; it's a very special place for our family.

St. Meinrad in Meinrad, IN is worth a visit.

They have a retreat house. There is also a sisters convent in Ferdinand, IN nearby.

A searchable database of specifically Benedictine Monasteries worldwide can be found here:
http://www.osb.org/geog/searchform.asp
In Jerome, ID is the Monastery of the Ascension, of which I am an Oblate with. Not sure if southern Idaho would be in your friend's area of travel, though!

I know someone who is an oblate at Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon. I can't personally vouch for their faithfulness, but I have heard good things about them.
