Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am considering making St. Andrew Chaplets this year. Does anyone know where I can find instructions and supplies?

Alice Cantrell has some tutorials for making chaplets. St. Andrew is not one of the specific ones she has (for color suggestions, bead type, etc.) but there is a generic tutorial with supply lists which can be used for any chaplet. And any bead and jewelry/finding supply dealer (online or local stores/craft stores) would have the supplies.

I love the St. Andrew chaplet. We did the novena for the first time last year. Had tried several times but never made it all the way to Christmas. We didn't use a physical chaplet, but your suggestion here has me thinking we should make one, too.

One more question: What age do you think kids could start making rosaries/chaplets?

That's a good question. I think it really varies with the style of rosary/chaplet you are making. They can be as basic as stringing beads on a string and tying off. But the more beautiful and complex ones do need a certain level of skill. Of those some are also still generally stringing individual beads - using tiny ones as spacers. The traditional rosary with the linking of chain between beads takes the most time. To do either of these unsupervised generally I would say a patient older pre-teen could probably learn. Much younger than that they need lots of supervision and help.

As a long time rosary maker I will say...It depends!

If you are confident in your craft you can work with highly motivated 6-8 year olds with the string type design. You would need to supervise and do most/all of the actually crimping and finishing.

The wire-wrapped ones that I specialize in you need to be much older. My pre-teen boys try often to do it and they just doing seem to have quite enough manual dexterity to do it real well...but they are close! Besides that, my children love picking out beads---which is really the fun part anyway.

HTH!
