Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

With the talk of costumes, and Halloween just months away I had to share this site: Gothic Garments. Paul Bernardino runs the site. According to his website:
I make and sell traditional Monks, Friars, and Nuns habits: Dominican, Benedictine, Carmelite, Franciscan, Cistercian, as well as Monastic and Medieval styled capes, etc.

I also make traditional monastic and clerical garments and habits of the Eastern Orthodox Church and Byzantine Rites, and some Eastern and Western Church vestments.

I also design, make, and sell Medieval Secular Attire, and assorted holiday and theatrical costumes.
I'm not sure his prices to make from scratch for your costumes, but how great is it that someone makes authentic religious garb? He might give a few ideas if you're trying to get that wimple and head cuff to stiffen up correctly!

That is way fancy! When I was a nun for career day (grade 3) my mom sewed a hankie onto a navy blue hand towel and attached it to a hairband. Cheap and effective. Our sisters were Notre Dame and they didnt have very elaborate habits, thank heavens. My poor mom, making a habit for an 8 yo. good memories!

What a great site, Jenn! I am showing it to my kids who are not used to seeing nuns in habits. We really don't have any nearby who wear them anymore. In fact, my daughter saw a group of Muslim women walking at the park and said, "Look Mom...NUNS!"
