Ladies I would like to try and make that crown of thrones out of salt dough . Do any of you have the recipe and instructions a link to this and other activities ?
I am not doing the stations of the cross box this yr. the boys are just a bit old for that now . I'd like to try and do a craft for each station instead so if you might know of some hands on activities and maybe perhaps a biblical reading for each station that would be really helpful . I'm taking away tv for lent ! so this shall leave plenty of room for activity
Thanks Gals
Rox

Here are some links:
Link with Crown of Thorns Salt Dough Recipe
Make stations of the cross grottoes
Printable Stations for Kids
More Stations of the Cross Crafts
I don't know of anything that has individual crafts or activities for each station, but I would be super interested to see if anyone else knows of a link!

Ok, here are some really cool colored salt dough crown of thorns! I will try to stop posting more links for these now. Just going through my folder of saved Lenten links and forgot about some things I saw last year. Clearly I need to make a blog post about these- I'm fascinated !

I don't have a whole collection or anything, but actually here's a craft for Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus.

Here's mine.
Instead of water, I used coffee to make the crown darker in appearance. Also egg wash before baking gave a nice sheen.
Also, instead of toothpicks, I used craft picks, painted with brown acrylic paint.

I just found These Readings to go along with the stations they are on the website I get the daily mass readings from and say this is from readings Pope JP II read in 1991 . I think they will be just right for our boys and the ages they are at . I'm still looking for crafts to go with each station if you have any ideas
I also forgot all about this website . I have made the children's advent books using the prayers from this site but had forgotten they have also lenten prayers and the stations Here is The Website
Thanks again for taking the time to list all these resources

An alternative to the salt dough crown of thorns is one made from a grapevine wreath with toothpicks stuck into it. That is what we have done for years. I like the look and the fact that it is reusable. I don't have a picture of ours, but found a similar one online from member, Tracy.

Yes, we've been doing the grapevine for a long time. I always forget to take pictures. I like to use craft picks, painting them brown so they match a little better.
I know i keep mentioning the craft picks...but the first year with the crown, dh was adamant that the toothpicks were just too sharp and I needed to come up with an alternative. Since then, I've just stuck with it, because I like the look, it's easier to grasp. Yes, they don't poke like the real crown of thorns, but the boys do get the message.
