Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love the Examination of Conscience in the back of the book How to Make a Good Confession for adults.

I would love to find something similar, in a book or online, for children.

Lent isn't that far away....

I found a wonderful one that I hope to share soon. It's for younger children.

A great booklet can be found at Scepter Publishers. It says 9-13 years old, but I think it could be a bit younger.

I can't put my hands on it right now, but I think that one of the Lovasik books has a nice examen in it. Sorry I can't be more specific atm.

This is a very simple examen, but I love how it's worded. It's so gentle. It's part of a booklet by Rev. Daniel Dougherty.

I Think of My Sins
(These questions may help you to remember your sins.)

Did I say God’s holy Name in a rough way?
Did I say words which were not right for me to say?
Did I stay away from Mass on a Sunday or a holy day, when I could have gone?
Did I talk back to my father, my mother, my teacher, older people?
Did I do what they told me do?
Did I think, say, or do anything to be ashamed of? Alone, with others?
Did I steal anything, or harm what some one else owns?
Did I copy in school?
Did I waste my time? Was I lazy?
Did I go with bad girls or boys?
Did I tell lies, or say wrong things about anybody?

(If you think the sin is a big sin, you must tell the number of times you did it.)

If you do not know how to tell a sin, you can say to the priest, “Father, I have a sin I do not know how to tell.”
He will help you.
If you think of something else, put it in your own words,
If you have no sins to tell, say to the priest, “Father, I have no sins since my last confession, but I am sorry for ---------------.” Tell him a sin from your past life.

I made my own using a variety of sources. Here it is...

Examination of Conscience

Is there anything I love more than God?
Do I talk to God as often as I can?
Do I complain about going to Church?
Did I try hard to pay attention at Mass?
Do I say the prayers at Mass as best as I can?
Did I talk or misbehave at Church?
Did I say God’s name in a bad or unkind way?
Did I say my prayers reverently and with attention?
Was I obedient to my parents?
Did I cheerfully do what I was told to do by my parents?
Was I disrespectful or angry to my parents?
Have I been angry or mean to anyone?
Have I been overly focused on my outward appearance and how I look?
Was I lazy? Did I finish my school work and chores properly and well?
Did I blame other people for the things I do?
Do I hit people when I get mad? Do I fight or argue with others?
Was I unfair in games?
Did I refuse to let someone play with me?
Have I lied to anyone?
Did I take something that didn’t belong to me?
Did I avoid medicine if I was sick?
Was I picky about the food that God gave me?
Did I stuff myself with food until I was too full?
Was I jealous of what someone else has?
Did I say please and thank you and show others kindness by using my manners?
Did I encourage or help others do bad things?
Do I share what I have with family, friends or the poor?
Have I tried to help those younger and weaker than me?
Do I keep too many things (clothing, toys etc) that I do not need?
Did I say my penance from my last confession?

Hope it helps!
