Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am sooo excited! The Posadas start tomorrow! I wrote a little about it on my blog, and I'm hoping to take some video and pictures to share with everyone. The Posada's are always a wake up call to me, reminding me that Jesus will soon be here :)

Doeas any of you participate in Posadas?

We used to do Las Posadas at church in southern Calif., but here on the East Coast it's pretty rare. I would love to start one here next year...can't wait to see your pictures!

Growing up in Downtown Los Angeles this was something we looked forward to every year at our local church. I can however admit that I never truly appreciated the excitement and symbolism of the act. The walking down the streets of our neighborhood holding candles and singing as our food push cart was transformed into a donkey with one of us dressed as Mary on top of it, pushed of course by Joseph. The grand finale getting back to the church and be served Champurado and Pan Dulce by the older women of our church (sometimes they would even serve empanadas or tamales). Hmmm!!!!

My kids and I always read our Posadas books and have a Mexican hot chocolate, pan dulce and flan tea; but haven't been able to have them experience the magic yet. Hopefully next year we will make the drive to my old church and have them enjoy a real Posada!

I'll be looking for your posts. ENJOY!!

We have only 1 child but my husband is Hispanic, Not mexican but his family is from the Caribbean. Yet he has heard of the Posadas and told me about it. So we do it now. Since no one else I know does it we do it in our house very very simply. our child is a boy and he can play either St. Joseph or the innkeeper/king and my husband is the male role he does not pick and I am of course Mary. We go from doorway to doorway like family room, dining room, and then living room where the mean inn keeper keeps turning us away until finally an inn keeper says there is some room in the stable out back (which is the foyer.) For props we use a blue blanket for Mary and we have a hobby horse as the donkey (of course I do not sit on it!LOL) and we have a little basket of hay with baby Jesus for the foyer/stable scene. We also have a bathrobe for Joseph and a yellow paper crown for the king. Simply when the innkeeper is done with his role he then pretends to be one of the three kings and he takes his crown off and lays it at baby Jesus feet. We had a play date the other day where a boy my son's age with his little sitter and brother came over and we did it with them (well the little brother had fallen asleep and he was too big for the basket of hay LOL but the little girl was Mary, so cute! much cuter than I am playing Mary! LOL. And my son's playmate and my son took turns playing Joseph and the innkeeper/King. I photographed it and scrapbooked it. It was a lot of fun. Not sure how I can add a photolink here so oh well.

How sweet! What a lovely way to spend a playdate!
