Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We've been using the old "Living My Religion" series alongside the "New St. Joseph's Balimore Catechism" with my son, who is now in grade 7. We've been memorizing the catechism questions and answers so far and have tried to do most of the activities form "Living My Religion," but no memorization from that one.

Recently this has become too much. The grade 7 book of "Living My Religion" has a lot of material and so does the Catechism No. 2. We also do daily Bible history and saint readings. I was wondering if anybody has encountered a similar problem. Do you still memorize the catechism in the higher grades when the questions and answers get longer and more complicated? Does anybody else use the "Living My Religion" series and a catechism?

I'm doing different things with my daughters, but my son really likes both books.

We usually do only 1 section per year of the Baltimore Catechism in the older grades so that the kids can study Bible and the saints more. In the early grades, we have the kids do all three sections of the catechism.

My attitude toward our religion courses is that I don't want it to be too much because I really want our kids to enjoy it and develope a relationship with God and not get overwhelmed with the course load.

Sometimes with our religion books we do one half one year and the other half the next school year.

It's really wonderful that your son likes his books!

Is there a link to Living My Religion Eva? I don't think I've heard of that one.
For the Baltimore Catechism, I agree with mariB. In the upper grades I think it is okay to slow down. Those answers get long in the 2nd book of the Baltimore Catechism.

We normally do the First Communion Catechism in grades 1 and 2, Catechism No. 1 in grades 3, 4, and 5 (one section per year) a" 7, and 8 (again 1 section per year). So we have followed the normal pace for the catechism questions. "Living my Religion" does contain the catechism questions, but in a different arrangement. I thought the books would complement each other, and this is true for the earlier grades, but for the higher ones, it seems to be a bit much. I think I will drop one of the two for now.

"Living My Religion" is not in print anymore. The oldest edition is from the 1940s, but there is a more recent edition from 1950s. El Camino Real used to sell a reprinted edition of the one from the 1940s. Amazon has a few used individual copies. Here is a review of the series. Our Lady of Victory also seems to be reprinting individual titles again. Sometimes Keller Books sells some used copies. The reprinted edition is in black and white, the other edtions also have some colored pictures.

We're using the series with two of our childen so far and both really like them. One of our children is using the Seton religion books, though.
