This year we're going to do a unit on HEAVEN! I'm really excited about it and can't wait to start. I think it is much needed in our household to foster Joy and Hope.
I have three books that I will use for ideas, reading, and discussion: A Travel Guide to Heaven, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Heaven, and The Happiness of Heaven.
Of course the Catechism and the Nazareth Master Catechism online too.
So, anything else you can add would be helpful.
Art, Music, what the Saints had to say about it, etc...

What an inspired idea!
There is a children's picture book, entitled "Someday Heaven" that might enhance your study for younger ones.
A favorite priest always reminded us we are "citizens of Heaven"...we like to focus on the fact that our true home is Heaven....anything we do in this life is a stepping stone to help us make it Home!
A favorite contemporary song, "Finally Home", by MercyMe, always makes me yearn for Heaven!

Thank you Servant. And that reminds me of another song by Mercy Me, "I Can Only Imagine."

Robin, I have been wanting to read Kreeft's book for years. I will be eager to hear what you have to say about it in particular, and how it compares with the others.
Thanks for sharing!
Love,

Scripture quotes on Heaven to copy and memorize:
"No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Cor 2:9
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." Jn 14:2
"For our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power which enables Him to subject all things to Himself," Phil 3:20-21
"There shall no more be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall worship Him; they shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. And night shall be no more; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they shall reign forever and ever." Rev 22:3-5
"Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great shall be your reward in heaven." Matthew 5:12
"I, John, saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
'See, the home of God is among mortals.
He will dwell with them;
they will be his people,
and God himself will be with them;
he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
for the first things have passed away.'
And the one who was seated on the throne said, 'See, I am making all things new.'" Rev 21:1-7
Any one know of any good poetry?

There is a beautiful song we used to listen to during the Easter season, on a music cd by nuns... I can't remember the name... the chorus had a line similar to "I will see Him in my body." Does this ring a bell for anyone?

You simply MUST get this picture book entitled A Handshake From Heaven.
This book is marvelously beautiful in that it connects us to Heaven via the Eucharist. It is so beautiful.
The end makes me cry. Every. Time.
My daughter's God-Mother got this at a conference where the author was selling them when she initially released it.
Please please please get this book!! It is soooo good and will fit wonderfully with your unit.
(Uh, no...I don't get royalties from the author...I just love this book!)

Okaayyyyy... this is the third time I try to post and my very looong first post and a shorter second post have disappeared. So now I will just post Father Groeschel's words about it and say that Travel Guide to Heaven was the most uplifting book I have ever read. It even brought me to tears of joy. As I closed the book, a homeless man approached me, and I could do nothing but give him the book. I hope that he reads it. I heartily recommend it... a book for everyone, not just Catholics. The author uses his imagination and reason, guided by Scripture to get us excited about heaven... and he accomplished it with me.
"Anthony DeStefano is not only amazingly lighthearted and engaging when he writes about heaven, but he is also paradoxically thought-provoking and even profound. Heaven is completely different from anything we can think of, and yet the Bible, Church Tradition and common sense tell us to remember where we are headed. Anyone who has the wisdom to meditate on eternal life will find this book a Godsend. A Travel Guide to Heaven is prayer-provoking as well as thought-provoking."
