Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It's so easy for me to forget about the feast days of my favorite saints (even my own patron saint, St. Anne, in July) because we're not "studying" religion.

Which "summer saints" are your favorites? Do you do anything special to commemmorate their feast days? What about Assumption (August 15)?

Side note: In Italy, the entire nation departs on vacation on the feast of the Assumption. Traffic jams and accidents abound. Not conducive to reflection and prayer...

Summer has so many great one's I think. My favorites:

St. Alyosius Gonzaga
St. John the Baptist
St. Benedict
St. Anne
St. Ignatius Loyola
St. Lawrence
St. John Vianney
St. Rose of Lima
St. Monica
St. Augustine

Boy, I've named too many to be favorites, haven't I?

I especially like St. Lawrence in summer for the star gazing we do - "Tears of St. Lawrence" Persied meteor showers.

St. Ignatius is big here since he is a Basque saint and I usually do a big Basque meal.

Really want to do the St. John bonfire need to be someplace where we can actually do that - in the city, no fire pit here.

Too many, really! A lot of namedays for our family happen in the summer:

Let's see
St. John the Baptist
St. Josemaria Escriva
Sts. Peter and Paul
St. Maria Goretti
St. Benedict
Our Lady of Mount Carmel
St. Anne and Joachim
St. James the Greater
St. Martha
St. John Vianney
Transfiguration
St. Dominic
St. Lawrence
St. Clare
St. Maximilian Kolbe
Assumption
Sts Monica and Augustine

Some are patron saint days (nameday, confirmation saints, patrons), some are family celebration days (weddings, birthdays) and then some are favorite because of the historical and cultural celebrations that are so interesting, like St. James (Santiago) in Spain, the Tears of St. Lawrence like Mary mentioned, the fruit and herb blessings on Assumption, etc.

I love Ordinary Time, because it allows more focus on the saints
