Just in case you want to start practicing. I'm excited!

When are the changes going to be actually "implemented"? Is it particular to each diocese?
Thanks!

I can't say I'm excited
It's not the new translations I have a problem with exactly. It's more that I rarely have my hands free for holding a Missal so I do all of those from memory and it's simply not exciting to have to relearn all that stuff.

I think so. I haven't been able to figure out when it will be implemented. I think there's a lot of training. Just keep your eyes on your diocesan papers.

Well, you have time! That's why I sent these changes now; you can start learning.
Think of those that lived in 1965 and the years after that with the new Mass with complete changes, and MULTIPLE changes. What we have now was changed quite a bit and quite freqently until 1975, I think.

I doubt I could get them to stick until I'm actually using them.. but once it starts this info will be great because I'll be able to read it at home.
You know I still "hear" (in my head) that rustling sound of a whole room of people standing up from before they changed when we stand.

Excited too! This link lists the changes to the people's participation, but I believe the priest's words of the consecration have been properly translated as well?

I haven't seen it all, but yes, it all has been reworked. If I find the translations, I'll link them. The translations are not perfect, but I'm happy for any improvement.

I don't know when the wording of the Mass prayers took on its present form, but these "new" translations sound much more like what I remember of the changes implemented in 1965 or thereabout. I don't know why they changed from those to the ones we've been using more recently, but if the "new/old" translations are more accurate, that's just wonderful!
Thanks for the *preview*, Jenn.
Peace,
Nancy

We've prayed some older litanies in the home recently, where the response to "Peace be with you" is "And with your spirit"....as we prayed the litanies it occurred to us that it was also good practice for the upcoming changes, since one of the main alterations for the people will be in that particular response ("And with your spirit, will replace "And also with you"). We attend both the Ordinary and Extraordinary Rite so I've been carefully following the English translation in the missal for the Extraordinary Rite, which makes some of the language that will be used in some of the changes all the more familiar. It helps that I was in second grade when many of the first changes occurred, so I feel more comfortable with both. We are praying for enthusiastic, grace-filled implementation and response by all souls within the Mystical Body!
If you navigate around the website Jenn shared you'll get an even greater sense of what's to come! It might be helpful for families to incorporate some of the simple changes into prayertimes in the home. It used to be customary for Catholic folk to greet one another with a prayer, such as "Peace be you" and respond "And with your spirit" OR "Praised be Jesus Christ", with the response "Now and Forever. Amen." In fact, we read that the word Good-Bye was derived from "God be with ye"! The early Christians greeted one another with a holy kiss....to greet one another with holy words seems to place us in their company! Perhaps using some of the phrases that are awaiting implementation during our comings and goings in the home would help old and young alike prepare for the holy endeavor that awaits us!

Thanks for the link! It is much closer to our Anglican-use liturgy - which will make it easier for my kids when we visit a different parish. And as for learning new stuff, it will be second nature before you know it and everyone else will be learning too.
