I was looking for catechism help about the feast of Candlemas and stumbled upon this
site.

I haven't delved into it yet, but thought I would share it quickly with you all before it's too late for this year

There is some nice , holy artwork at the bottom of the page which relates to the feast.

Has anyone used this website before?

Stephanie, I love this site, and have corresponded with one of the authors. It is solid and aligned with the Pope. They have a fabulous liturgical calendar I use for reference all the time.

And this link is so great, because I was going to write something but most of it is all here. The feast used to be called "Purification of Mary" and was changed to Presentation of the Lord to reflect that this was truly a feast of Our Lord.

I like the history of the candles for this feast. I myself have been a little worried that there is overemphasis on the candles and not about the whole feast and the Light of the World. Candlemas is not the true name of the feast day, but just a casual naming of what is including in the liturgy...sort of like Martinmas and Michaelmas and Hallowmas for other days but aren't the official liturgical name.

Oh, yes of course you're right. In German, the traditional name is "Maria Lichtmess", but now it is called "Darstellung des Herrn". But you still hear "Lichtmess" ALL THE TIME. You can't get the older crowd to call it anything other than "Lichtmess".

I find the candles to be such a great physical symbol of Christ - "A light for revelation to the Gentiles" - I don't think that including them takes away from a focus on Christ when put in the proper light (no pun intended ). We just got back from our Presentation Feast Day event for our local group. We did Alice's Tea for the Presentation and made rolled beeswax candles, that the children can have blessed tomorrow at Mass. It was lovely.

I gave all my CCD girls a plain white taper with curly ribbon to take home last Sunday.

It was a 2fer, Candlemas & St. Blaise.
