Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was wondering when you will be celebrating Epiphany with your family, and what will you do?

The Church celebrates Epiphany on Sunday; but if one tracks the 12 days of Christmas, that would end on Jan. 6th.

I have a gift for my children that I want to give them on Epiphany, and we are going to have 3 Kings Cake, but I cannot decide if I should do so after Mass on Sunday or wait until that 12th Day of Christmas. Decisions ... decisions ... What are YOU all doing?

Happy new year!

We always give our children a gift on Epiphany - this comes from our years in Italy, where La Befana brings gifts on January 6. We'll probably have Italian food for dinner, too - something baked...I am cold...

The Three Kings knock on the door and um, ditch (my son does it for me)..and on the porch are three religious gifts for the girls! It is so fun, and they love it.

We go to Mass also, but I would also like to try the Three Kings cake...sounds pretty good!

We do - in the Italian tradition...but somehow no one ever gets lumps of coal.

We celebrate on January 6. We go to Mass on this day, too, not always at our parish, as it is a drive. Regardless, of where we have gone, the priests have always made mention of Epiphany in one way or another. I get the impression that we are not the only ones who wish that the Church (in the U.S.) would still celebrate Epiphany on January 6.

We move our wise men around the house and they don't make it to the nativity set until Epiphany. But we do it on Sunday because Dad is home and it's just easier then. We also do the blessing of the doorway and some years we even have a King Cake.

I wrote about some of this a while back.

We do our festivities on January 6th too--most of them in the evening, when Daddy is home.

We will do ours on January 6th, also.
All the children will receive their last gift of the Christmas season this day in honor of the three wise men.
We will make a king cake and have blessing of the doorway, too.

I found this one to print out for us at
Family Feast and Feria - it is in pdf.
Handy!

We do our family gift exchange on Epiphany with a cake for breakfast. Our parish is good but very empty and we are talking about trying to find a big Mass somewhere to go to. Just to remind the kids that the Church is more than five Italian widows . . . We do all of this on the 6th as well.

We do a combo of both. we have a good priest friend who always comes over in the afternoon of the Sunday closest to Epiphany (it will be the 3rd this year) and he will do the blessing of the kings on the doorways to our house. I think this year makes it six years in a row!    we share gifts with him and eat a big meal. (Italian this year at his request)

On the 6th the kids will get a few more gifts. And we have been reading a zillion Epiphany related books to get ready. I haven't made out the menu for the 6th but probably a three kings cake as has been our tradition.

Here's an example of the epiphany blessing

We celebrate the Epiphany wiht the Church liturgical on the second Sunday after Christmas of course, but hold to the Jan. 6 date for putting out shoes for a gift from the Wise Men.

Past threads of interest (especially the first one - lots of great ideas):
Epiphany
Saving Gifts for the Epiphany

This is how we celebrate, too. My kids are looking forward to seeing what La Befana brings them! I'm thinking of making Grandma D.'s meatballs...mmm!

Oh, and I think we'll celebrate it on the sixth :)

Glad this is helpful. I need to update for this year.

We will do our house blessing for this Sunday, although probably Saturday when Father will come.

As I'm preparing for our Epiphany celebration (barring sickness), it's on my mind. Besides the house blessing, we have a meal together with various extended family and a priest friend.

We've been gradually reading all our books on Epiphany since Christmas. My old posts describe some of our traditions. I don't have all our new books listed, though.

I've updated our house blessing here for 2010
