Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I tried to find a thread about what everyone was doing for gifts this year for St. Nick's (if you're celebrating it this year ) but I didn't turn up anything.

I just realized it's two days till the 6th and I haven't done a thing. This year we have been so blessed by my stepmother who collected the dutch wooden shoes for me and decorated them each according to the child's personality or likes. They are adorable and hanging on the pass through from the kitchen to the dining room so the children are especially excited this year about using them.

Momma flaked, so can you please share with me what you're doing and maybe it will spark an idea? Gold coins are easy to get, I'll be grabbing those tonight.

This year:

-religious coloring book
-ccc dvd (francis xavier, juan diego, etc)
-small box of sweet cereal (we never buy anything, except plain cheerios once in a while, so this is a real treat)
-few pieces of chocolate

chocolate coins
sm. boxes of dried cranberries
rock candy on a stick

I was going to get cat chat cd's and then realized they ship from canada and couldn't make it.. and now I've flaked and can't order anything and have to get something here in town.. I don't know if I should get a dvd or if I should get little gifts things..

Safeway has they cute little wood puzzles.. you put them together like tanagrams.. small pieces though so better for the older ones.. and they're at least a bit tricky so even the "really old" kid might have fun with them.

Very simple here:
gold coins
orange
candy cane
rosary chaplet
holy card ring
St. Nicholas coloring page
Christmas cards turned into lacing cards

I think just having the first three would be perfectly fine--and easy to get too!

St. Nick coupon book. Type out coupons for things like "gum at the checkout", "batch of fresh-baked cookies", "a new book" or "date with Dad". We include only items we would be willing to do on the spot (within reason). Print, cut out, put a paper cover on it, maybe a seasonal sticker and voila. The kids LOVE them, and we don't have to buy *anything right now. Hope this helps.

My girls are getting chapel veils and a candy cane (I am crossing my fingers that my 2 yo dd doesn't have an allergic reaction to the candy cane).

From St. Nick: Gold coins, a chocolate Santa dressed like St. Nick, hot wheels cars for the boys and something similarly small for the girls (hubby is picking them up at the store on his way home tonight) and a letter to each child asking them to work on a specific virtue or habit this Advent.

On the table from Mom and Dad (only because they were with me when we found them otherwise they would have been from St. Nick): small Matryoshka ornaments filled with Candy Cane Hershey's kisses.

This may have been on another thread, but it was a great idea, so I took it. Dh picked up some of the gold presidential coins to put in their stockings. I have big crayons for the baby and a book each for the older boys as well as clementines and a chocolate bar.

Chocolate letters and cookies are essential to our shoes. There will also be chocolate coins (the color and size of Canadian one dollar coins works very well when done up as chocolate coins )

There will also be some small items (holy cards and craft items) from the Saint Nicholas Center, Paint your own Nativity sets for the oldest three, a nativity finger puppet set for the three year old, and a stuffed animal for the one year old.

Past years have had smaller gifts, one year everyone recieved a mini-Tonka truck.

There are a number of really interesting craft ideas, recipes and printouts at the St. Nicholas center. The felt St. Nick puppet looks like something an experienced crafter could put together quickly.

There are also printable games in the kids section which could be printed out, rolled up, tied with a nice ribbon and put in shoes. (I'm planning to print out the color and cut out play set, myself).

~Chocolate coins (oh shoot- where did I hide those??)
~new toothbrush
~a candy cane
~a satsuma orange

and that's it. Funny- they get the same thing every year, and yet every year they get sooooo excited for it. :)

I'm missing something. Coins, I understand. Candy cane, I get. But what's with the clementines?
