Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can someone point me to a list of good books to read in preparation for First Holy Communion?

And if anyone has used the Little Catechism on the Eucharist, how did you incorporate it? The chapters are too long for my dd 8, so we just read the first two pages yesterday.

I found that the Little Catechism on the Eucharist] worked better as a preparation book for me rather then reading it directly to my seven and a half year old dd as the language was above her head.

This article discusses one way to use the Little Catechism with younger children The Little Catechism on the Eucharist

I ended up using the St. Joseph First Communion Catechism rather then the first section of the Little Catechism. However the stories in the second and third sections were much easier for her to follow and some of the illustrations in the first section were useful for her.

My ten year old dd was better able to follow the Little Catechism on the Eucharist (I like to go over the Mass and Eucharist with everyone during First Communion years).

I found the King of the Golden City to be an excellent book for reading aloud to my second grader. The chapters are a good length and the allegorical nature of the book made for good discussions. My older daughter and I found CHC's free guide very helpful for deeper study.
