Okay Ladies, we are in the last three weeks before Advent.
Elizabeth just posted about her plans here
and Sarah has her amazing Advent/ Christmas Notebook up on her blog. I need to start planning and budgeting for the season. I need really easy crafts for advent and especially for Gaudette(sp?) Sunday (its a very special day for our family, for a ton of reasons)

We'll be doing "Las Posadas" starting December 16 and I just bought Tommie de Paola's book: The Night of Las Posadas
Also, there are netted bags of chocolate coins for the feast of St. Nicholas at Target in the Dollar section here in NM, and maybe in your state too! I like that the coins replicate the JFK coins. The one's I've usually found always have pirate stuff on them 
I'm looking for some good dvd suggestions for Advent/Christmas.

As for what we do in our home...
Where I grew up, Saint Nicholas's Feast Day was practiced by EVERYONE...Catholics, protestants and non-believers alike...crazy, huh? So when we moved and I found out that very few families practice Saint Nicholas, I decided I needed to bring the tradition to our area.
My mom and grandmother are very talented seamstresses (Grandma made my wedding dress and all bridesmaid dresses)...they are making me a traditional St. Nicholas costume, bishops cope, mitre, and all. :) I have a friend who is dressing up for our home school group and will come as St. Nicholas to tell the story of St. Nicholas in the first person.
He will give each child a gold, chocolate coin (from The Fresh Market) to remember his good deeds and as an edible reminder to practice good deeds anonymously ourselves.
I am just a little bit excited about this. 
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the Feast of St. Lucy are all big feast days in our Home.
We usually do "teas" for Feast Days of our Lady...and coloring sheets, etc.
For St. Lucy, we make crowns with candles out of construction paper and where them on our heads during dinner.
Gaudete Sunday is HUGE in our home. That is when we go and pick out our tree and decorate it with the Advent Ribbons (purple, pink)...we bake cookies on Gaudete as well...it is a huge Feast Day and day of "Joy" in our home.
We then decorate our tree on the day of Christmas Eve...and then celebrate Mass that afternoon...and come home to a tasty, yet simple dinner...
And then we spare no expense for our Christmas Banquet the next day.  Thankfully, I married my own "food network star"...who is incredibly gifted in the culinary arts.
And we really celebrate Christmas through Epiphany. None of that tossing out the Christmas Tree...We hold off on Christmas music until Christmas...and then go nuts.
Our family prayer group has a huge party on Epiphany...and all the kids act out the Nativity.
Whew! A busy but delightful Advent and Christmas!!
I am so excited to glean more ideas from all the moms here!!! You all have really encouraged us to enrich our home with the lovely and the liturgical.

We are EXCITED  To be doing:
A)Holy Heroes Advent Adventures/Jesse tree
B)"B is for Bethlehem" (using this book for all of Advent as a review for our letter of the week curriculum but using Advent based themes using only the letters we've learned. We will read appropriate bible stories for the Joyful mysteries---1 per week.
Week 1:
Monday-A is for Advent, Angel, Annunciation
Wednesday-B is for Baby Jesus, Birth, Bells
Friday-C is for Christmas tree, candles
Saints: St. Nicholas- story, gifts, coloring
Immaculate Conception- Marian flowerpot as seen previously
Week 2:
Monday-D is for donkey, House of David, Juan Diego (Around his feast)
Wednesday-E is for eternal, excitement, Emmanuel
Friday-F is for flocks of sheep, Fiat, flowers (Our Lady's feast is near this)
Saints: St. Juan Diego- going to attempt to make a tilma
Our Lady of Guadalupe-flowerpot again
St. Lucy-dress-up and make crown to wear, make candle shaped gluten free sugar cookies
Week 3:
Monday-G is for Glory, Gifts/giving, gingerbread
Wednesday-H is for Heavenly host, Hail Mary, Holy Night
Friday-I is for Inn
Might try to make gluten free gingerbread cookies this week.
Week 4:
Monday (21st)-J is for Jesus, jingle, joy
Tuesday (22nd)-K is for King, kneel, kindness
Wednesday (23rd)-L is of love, lambs
Thursday (24th)-M is for manger, Mother Mary, Messiah born to us
Friday (25th)-N is for nativity
We will do several crafts for this week...probably make a little nativity.
C) Joyful mysteries lap book. I will use the coloring pages from Holy Heroes to make a simple lapbook with pictures she's colored and quotes from the Joyful Mysteries scriptures for her to have for prayers during Advent and beyond.
D) Evening prayers will include lighting Advent candles, singing O Come, O Come Emmanuel (changing the verses for the last days during the 7 "O's of Advent")and opening boxes marked for each day that we will hang on our Christmas tree. These will start with #1 at the bottom leading to the top where the star is placed. Journeying to the star just like the shepherds and wise men!
Christmas:
We decorate our tree Christmas Eve and change out all our Advent decor for the whites/reds/golds of Christmas after the kids are in bed.
On Christmas morning we will place baby Jesus in the manger and sing "Rejoice Emmanuel is born to you..." and then turn on our Christmas tree for the first time!
We're going to put white boxes on the tree with one for every day of the Christmas Season for them to open with a sung verse of the same song we sing Christmas morning. We'll also continue to light our wreath each night of the Christmas Season.
I'm considering continuing the Christmas theme for the letter of the week program for letters N, O, and P which will fall during that time frame.
I'm thinking of doing a little flowerpot for the feast of the Holy Family with Holy Family prayer card.

I'm adding our Advent Basket. This is really just a set of ideas for my older daughter to follow.

I shared our Advent traditions last year. I thought I'd throw them up here to the collection. We generally consider incorporating one new tradition each year, but I don't feel obligated to do that at all. I'm more and more of the opinion that less is more. In order to prepare our hearts we have a great need for quiet and time to "be still and know". This is made even more difficult to accomplish by the extraordinary NOISE in our culture today. We have a few traditions - the Jesse Tree, the Advent Wreath, the Christmas Novena, and Advent picture books - that are non-negotiable.
I'm very excited to try hanging our advent wreath this year!

Well,
we will be using Destination: Bethlehem as our main resource.
After reading a couple weeks ago I got so excited about it! What we are going to do is read a chapter a day and make a "In the Time of Jesus" Notebook to go along with it. I will be using the little historical snippets at the end of each chapter to study the Holy Land at the time of Christ's birth. We will make one Notebook page a day and since we are still pretty young, I can see this becoming a tradition and adding to this notebook for years to come.
We will also be using an Advent Calendar with most of the suggested "gifts". I am using our Little People Nativity set for this.
So that should be our morning basket!
Then in the afternoon we will read a different Christmas book and do a little activity based on each.
First week of Advent: Little House Christmases (oh so much fun in perspective, is it Advent yet?)
Second week we will focus on the gift of self and giving in general, starting with St. Nick's feast day.
Third week: Christmas Trees (we set up our tree on Gaudete Sunday)
Fourth week: Nativity.
And we will finish the day with our Jesse Tree.
Voila!
Let me know if anyone wants more details on books used.

Thank you to all you inspiring ladies for sharing your plans. I am taking many ideas from you all. Thank you for taking the work out of this process for some of us that struggling in gathering resources together and struggle with following the liturgical path.

I just put up an idea for the younger ones My Little Advent which are small cards for each day of Advent to put on a little ring...a portable calendar, if you will.

Just wanted to share some advent posts I've been working on!
Edible Advent Wreath for Kids
Paint regular candles pink and purple with melted crayons
And some things we did last year:
Free Printable Nativity craft (This includes the holy family, shepherd, sheep, 3 kings, 3 camels, a donkey, an angel, and a stable. Very easy to make. I'm hoping to add an inn, inn keeper, and Mary on a donkey next year, but not time for now.)
Baby Jesus in the manger Craft (you can make the manger empty and add Him at Christmas.)
