Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I saw the great Tower of Mercy project, and I'm wondering if any of you have done individual Corporal Works projects/crafts. I've been trying to think of some ideas for various age groups and would love to get other's input on this. I'm not coming up with anything too creative at the moment. More like: making no-sew fleece blankets and scarves and donating them.

Thanks!

Melissa

Answering my own post with some of the activities I've come up with for our group this year in case others are looking for ideas.

Shelter the Homeless
1) Decorate brown lunch sacks and donate to a local homeless shelter. The children there go to a transitional school and bring a sack lunch that the shelter makes them each morning. You can run the sacks through a printer if you like and have a coloring picture put on there, free hand it and/or a line that reads: This lunch belongs to___________________.

2) Toiletry bags. OTC has heart shaped canvas bags on sale. The kids can use large stamps to decorate them then fill with hotel/travel size toiletries and a new washcloth.

3) Make fleece scarves and hats in toddler and kid sizes.

4) Paint Welcome Plaques. A local shelter tries to get families into housing. When they move into a place, they don't have much so a welcome plaque will be given to them as a house/apt warming gift. It's a simple 5x7 wood plaque with two holes drilled at the top. They are painted with a "Welcome" stenciled on. A pretty ribbon is tied through the holes and used as a hanger.

Bury the Dead
1) Make Memory Boxes for families who have lost babies. You take a paper mache box, paint and decorate it. We'll be filling them with crafts we make: a memory candle using a votive, a curl box and a sachet.

Clothe the Naked
1) No-sew Fleece blankets to be donated to a homeless shelter that runs Warming houses in the winter. JoAnn's often has these kits for 50% off.

Visit the Sick (to be donated to sick children)
1) Fabric covered journals (using composition books that are on sale for 50 cents or less right now)
2) Paint wooden pencil box (from OTC), stick in cellophane bag with box of new Crayola Colored pencils and tie with ribbon
3) Decorate Friendship bracelets
