A local parish offers Eucharistic Adoration directly following the morning daily Mass. From the time the priest removes the sacred host from the tabernacle, places the host in the monstrance on the altar, and turns the monstrance to the people, I see a variety of times when those in attendence kneel. Is there one proper time? If there is one, where is this documented?

The documents that reference rubrics for worship of the Eucharist outside of Mass deal most specifically with the actions and postures of the priest or deacon during expostion and benediction not the congegation (except for the instruction to geneflect in the presence of the blessed sacrament, whether reserved in the tabernacle or exposed for public adoration).

Here are the documents and instructions that refer to adoration and benediction:


EUCHARISTIAE SACRAMENTUM Holy Communion and Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass
A decree of the Sacred Congregation for Divine Worship, authorizing and explaining the reception of Holy Communion and the worship of the Blessed Sacrament outside of Mass. It deals with such aspects of the Eucharistic processions and congresses, and the administration of Communion during and outside of Mass (June 21, 1973).

Eucharisticum Mysterium Instruction on Eucharistic Worship – Eucharistic exposition and adoration are addressed in the 3rd section - Worship of the Eucharist as a permanent Sacrament

Redemptionis Sacramentum
Chapter V - The Reservation of the Most Holy Eucharist and Eucharistic Worship outside Mass

But I believe it is customary to kneel from the time the Eucharist is first exposed. Hopefully someone will be able to reference a specific guideline for this if is does exist, as I was not finding anything tonight. I think the lack of the specific guideline leads to the variations in timing you are seeing.

At our parish, many kneel as the priest heads to the tabernacle, but I would say everyone is kneeling as he opens the door to the tabernacle exposing the Blessed Sacrament. Likewise, when he reposes, everyone stays kneeling until he shuts the tabernacle door.

Not as documented as Mary -- just sharing what happens at our parish.
