We have been reading about Sts Peter and Paul this month in preparation for their feast day next Monday.

Does anyone have a clever idea of something related to St. Paul to make for dinner or dessert? St. Peter is easy - fish! But I can't think of anyting for St. Paul.

Isn't it funny that St. Paul isn't really mentioned along with food dishes?

I had a few ideas, but not necessarily clever.

Since he was a tentmaker at one time, you could make the St. Peter meal and eat it under a makeshift tent or canopy.

He died in Rome, and was officially a Roman citizen, so making historic Meditaranean Roman foods would be one approach.

I always think of him as a strict Jew before his conversion, so Kosher foods, and Biblical foods come to mind. I found this neat site about a cookbook entitled Cooking with the Bible. There's a meal suggestion for Jesus Eats with the Pharisees, and Paul was a Pharisee...so I thought those ideas fit very nice.

I also like incorporating a saint's symbols, so a sword cake, or a Book Cake (or homemade version).

And Jenn wrote this post from Catholic Cuisine which focused on the conversion of St. Paul which has some ideas.

We had a Conversion of St. Paul themed dinner in February and I "thought" I blogged it either on my blog or Catholic Cuisine, but cannot find it

so guess I never got around to it. I do have the photos and will try to put that together.

Didn't Maryan have an idea in Faith and Family for baked potato ships (for I thought St. Paul, but maybe it was Columbus?). I thought is was on Faith and Family blog but can't find that either. Anyway, they look something like this and would be a good symbol for St. Paul because of his many travels by ship (and of course the shipwreck).

You can also make paper boats to float after dinner. It is symbolic of both St.s Peter and Paul, but I love the idea of explaining the meaning of the bark (barque) of Peter on this Solemnity. See how many apostles (pennies) you can float before your ship sinks...or re-enact St. Paul's shipwreck.

Having baked potato ships for dinner with goldfish crackers floating about would be great. You can talk about the "fishers of men" aspect, the "bark of Peter" aspect, the travels/shipwreck of St. Paul aspect.

Coming back to add that the tilapia fish is traditionally the fish believed to have been caught by the apostles. It's a mild fish and tastes great pan fried! It would be perfect with the baked potato boats and this is my meal plan for the Solemnity!

Yes, Maryan did, but for the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and the Battle of Lepanto. It was blogged at Catholic Cuisine here: Victory Vessels.

Interesting about the Tilapia, I had never heard that.

Hey good idea Mary! And Jennifer, I love the Tilapia idea! JennGM's right - I made the boats for OLV, but they totally would work for St. Paul! We're doing the Donut Man's little play on St. Paul... but I lost the disk.

I had it two weeks ago, so I just need to back track and see where I left it. Otherwise, we'll go a cappella. And then we'll have fish and boats.

Oh and we had fish cake for dessert on The Chair of Peter last year. Can't remember from where this idea came or if I made it up: Fish cake down on bottom
