Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I see this is recommended at Mater Amblis. Can someone tell me what exactly you purchase--there seems to be a number of formats/versions at Adoremus Books...and some are pricey!

I'm not sure what MA intends one to use, but I assume you really can't do the study without either the set of cds or of dvds - either of which are quite expensive.

Anyone know for sure? Michele are you here?

I did the study a couple of years ago with a church group of women. I think that there are definitely things in the dvds (or cds) that are not in the materials, and I highly recommend them because they are excellent and Jeff Cavins does an amazing job of bringing it all together.

However, I think you could use the workbooks and things without the talks for an effective overview of scripture independently.

I think that I would purchase the program directly from the publisher, Ascension Press.

I think the DVD's are $399 which will not be in the budget! So, could I use the CD's and $44 kit for my 13 year old? I like the idea of him doing salvation history as we are sudying ancients and the other crew will be doing vaious forms of bible history depending on their ages. I think the GA would be something different (than Shuster's for instance). I wonder if the whole family could listen to the CD's?

We went in with three other families to purchase the DVD's and did the study together -- moms, dads, teens, and middles. The littles went off to play while we studied. It was great for the kids to learn the Bible along with their dads as well as the rest of the family.

When we were done, we donated them to our church and I led a mom's Bible study while their children where in CCD. We only had an hour together, so we watched a DVD one week and discussed it the next.

It is pricey but it is also excellent material. See if you can get your parish to purchase it and volunteer to lead a family Bible study. Jeff Cavins does all the work for you. You just need to hit the Play button and then keep everyone on topic for the discussion. You could break out into small discussion groups after viewing the DVD together or you could give everyone the responsibility to go over the written material on their own at home.

Definitely too pricey for just one 13-year old.

Blessings,
Maureen :)

Also, see if your diocese has a resource center from which you could check it out. Our archdiocese is divided into deanery's and I think each one has its own resource center (I know our deanery does) and it's not just for church employees.

Don't know if this helps at all, but they run segments on EWTN. I have started Tivoing them to watch - definitely fits better in my budget this way.
