My ds was born on Annunciation and I have been wondering how others with "feast day babies"
balance b-day and holyday celebrations/observances.
In our case ds is very focused even dependent on routines and was very upset when we suggested celebrating his b-day on a day other than the 25th.
He has been checking and counting and muttering over the calendar for weeks making sure i knew the exact day
I want to respect his feelings but dont want the feast to be swept under the rug either.
Any ideas?
Thanks Maggie

Maggie, as he gets older this will be easier. For now, I'm sure Our Lady would understand his celebrating his birthday ...
Why don't you do one at Breakfast and the other at Dinner?

I was going to say the same thing. For now, if it's important for it to be on the exact day, then keep it. As he gets older, prob won't be such a big deal.

What is different on holydays? What do you celebrate that?
We try to incorporate both, with the birthday person choosing the meal and desserts. We always go to Mass for birthdays anyway, so that part of the day doesn't look different.

My littlest one was born on December 12, the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Actually, we had the choice to induce him (because he was ginormous) on Dec. 11, 12, or 13. We chose the 12th, so that he could always share his day with Our Lady.
Like Jenn said, we always go to Mass for birthdays, and now Sebastian has mariachi music before Mass and a Guadalupe-related play in the gym after Mass, too.
The morning starts with a celebration for the Blessed Mother due to the early Mass ... and then Sebastian has a little party later in the evening.
We see it as a chance to celebrate with a saint.

I have to say that I still agree with your DS. Celebrating a birthday on a day that isn't has always seemed strange to me and I would rather do less on the actual day that have a bigger celebration on a different day.
I do have a DD born on Epiphany and we just celebrate both on the same day: special dinner (chosen by the birthday girl), birthday cake, presents, mass, read Epiphany books and process the 3 Kings to to the creche. It's not as though celebrating the feast conflicts with or cancels out celebrating the birthday (or vice versa) - it's just more celebrating!

Well, when you put it that way...
As dh is always telling me I often borrow trouble!
It seems like a silly worry now.
We are sticking with celebrating tomorrow and will enjoy the specialness of the day!
Thanks Maggie
