Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just wanted to generate some discussion on good places to go to have Masses said.

The obvious choice is your Parish. Which I have done many times, however, sometimes that wait list if for MONTHS and then there is the issue of getting to the Church office during business hours.

So, I would like to have some options of places to go.

I am especially interested if their is a place on line that is legit to do this. But, "by mail" would be okay as well.

Thanks so much for your help,
Betsy

Betsy we find Aid to the Church in Need is a wonderful organization to go through. It does take time though for the overseas priests to say the Masses but this stipend money is so imporant to their survival, that I see it as stipend that does alot of good besides the offering of the Holy Sacrifice itself.

Here is the link to their Mass Offerings page I like to do these things online as well.

They also allow for Triduum, Novena and Gregorian Masses, something that is much harder to have offered these days. We had an uncle die last year and family members all put in for the Gregorian Masses, I know we wouldn't be able to have it offered locally as the priest cannot miss a single day in the 30 days succession, if they do, they have to start again.

Hi Betsy,
I am very interested in replies from others too. I recently looked through the box in which I keep the girls' baptismal candles and such. I was reminded that friends of ours gave us a beautiful folder-type card on the baptism of our youngest dd that enrolled her for 10 years in the Masses of The Association of Marian Helpers. These are the priests with the devotion to the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA. It looks like they have lots of options for cards and folders.

Dear Betsy,

Providentially, I was just talking with my Franciscan friends about this before I had a chance to come over here and see this!! (and I don't get here too often )

They are the godparents of one of my children and they had mass offered for his baptismal day at this site:

I'm planning to use it too as our parish schedule is so full! Annie, your link is lovely and I'm going to save that one as well.

Blessed Lent!

Anne, Thanks for your suggestion. That is exactly what I was looking for. Although I still open to other suggestions!

This discussion has raised another long time question that I have had. What is the spiritual difference (if that is the right way to put it) of having a Mass offer for a person versus enrolling a person in a perpetual Mass, where I believe that the Mass is offered for many people at once. Anyone?

Thanks,
Betsy

I love having Masses said through the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius in Chicago.

An idea to have Masses said without having to wait too long is to contact a small rural church. I know if I try here in the city at any of our parishes it is usually months out to have a Mass said maybe even six months. But in the small town where my mom lives (100 -150 families in parish) there aren't that many Mass intentions requested - so it is easy to have a Mass said within a week. My aunts, who have no connection to the church send my mom money all the time and have her get Masses said there. I have done it also. So if you have any connections to a similar church you might look into it. It could definitely be done by phone, followed up by mail.

This looks good!
Can you just have one Mass said or can you only enroll for a year/perpetually?

I use the National Shrine of Divine Mercy a lot as they make it so easy online...also use this fransican missionary site as they have so many missionaries and lots of masses to fill...they will also do the Gregorian Perpetual masses. http://www.franciscanmissions.org/Mass_Offerings.html

I don't know if you can enroll for a year or perpetually, but they regularly have Father's Day and Mother's Day and other occasion Masses that you can have said in threes. A series of three Masses said for your mom on Mother's Day, for example. If you place yourself on their mailing list, you will be apprised of these special Mass opportunities by snail-mail a month or so before the holiday or feast day.

I order Mass cards from the Canons of Regular of St. John Cantius and keep them in my drawer. Then when an occasion comes up where I want to have a Mass said for someone, I fill out the Mass card and send it to the recipient, and at the same time I write a check for the Mass stipend to St. John Cantius. It works well, because I don't have to plan ahead or wait.
