Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've just read the book about homeschooling our kids, unschooling ourselves (can't recall the exact title but i know most of you know this book) and I like a lot of the info in it and am thinking about heading this way with my ds12 who is resisting my efforts to direct his learning :) (hard for me to let go control but I think this is what he needs, at least for now)
Anyway, my question is, what do most of you do for religion? Do you just allow that in unschooling as well, or still have some sort of plan/curriculum you follow, or just bring things up as they occur naturally (hard for me to do this without it becoming a lecture), or do you send them to CCD? I can see how a kid will gravitate to what they want/need to know when they need it, but I want my kids to have a good background in their faith and understand it, especially since we live in the Bible Belt and most of ds's friends are evangelical protestants who usually misunderstand the Church and often try to "convert" him.

We don't have a plan per se but we do live the Faith, I share my reading, we read about the Saints, as things come up we look them up in the CCC or an age appropriate catechism .

Each Lent and Advent I encourage the kids ( and myself and dh and the grown kids!) to choose a spiritual books for reading during this time - and I have read aloud these to younger ones.

For FHC and Confirmation prep, we have read through books together and some have attended parish classes, if the parish in which we lived made this a requirement.

Opportunities to learn about the Faith and to discuss just come up, especially as members of inclusive homeschool groups, where we meet people from many different faiths and beliefs.

Karen,
Natalia asked a similar question here

Julie mentioned in another thread the idea of reciprocity -- sharing learning -- and I find this to be the best way of "teaching" the faith. We pray together, discuss issues with a Catholic perspective, and I try to keep learning so I can share things with the kids as they come up.   I try to model that we keep growing and learning in our faith ALL our lives.

I recommend books, too, or we read them aloud together, as Leonie said.
