Hi Ladies,
I love praying novenas, but I find that I always seem to forget/miss a day.
What do you guys do when you forget a day? Is it appropriate to add another day on to the end? Do you pray two in one day to sort of catch up? Do you start over?
I feel like an eight-year-old asking this question, but I suppose, technically, I'm a four-year-old Catholic.
Thanks Ladies,
DeAnn

Here's my approach. If I forget to start on the right day, I'll add a day. Many times novenas are set so they end the day before the feast, but you could also do it so they end on the actual feast.
I'm human, and God knows it. I miss days in a novena all the time. If it's a novena that has special prayers for each day, I'll pray both days the next day, but I don't put in an extra day. God isn't keeping a scorecard and marking down absentees and such. He understands!

Thanks Jennifer. I was hoping I was not the only one who forgets to start on the right day or misses a day here and there. I think I need to stop worrying about praying and doing things, "the right way" and remember that the point is to grow in my love for and trust in God. He is good and gracious.
Thanks so much,
DeAnn

DeAnn,
I can relate so much to you saying that you worry about doing things the right way.
I had an elderly Catholic woman tell me(not too long ago), to pray to God or ask for the intercession of Mary,to "fill in" for me in areas I feel i am weak, struggling,or lacking confidence. I thought thay was such a lovely way to look at my faith and life.
Jenn-thanks!

I live by that too
I am a convert and so was glad to hear what Jenn said. When I start a novena I figure that any prayers I get in are a bonus compared to NOT doing a novena... so I try to make all 9 days but don't feel like it was a worthless venture if I "only" get 7 or 8 days in.
A novena in its essence seems to me to be about a "lack" -- I am missing something, otherwise why would I pray a novena? So coming up against my lacks or imperfections seems humbling, but not altogether surprising.
