Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Candles for Advent

Advent Candles

My supply of Advent purple and pink taper candles is dwindling. Our past conversations had a great resource, but now they don't exist anymore.

So, I'm in the market for beeswax (not rolled) candles with rich hues, not the pale stuff. Soy might be okay, too. I don't like parafin because they don't burn as cleanly or last as long.

Anyone find a good resource to share?

Shoot, Jenn -- I was coming here hoping you had the answers! I like the deep, rich colors but can never find true Advent purple and pink!

Anyone have any advice?

I've been searching the internet high and low. Solid beeswax candles are expensive, but I think the trade-off is that they will last longer.

Every year I drool over these beeswax candles from Williams Sonoma. The 12" tapers would be 3 Advents

And this year I wondered if anyone has tried to take honeycomb beeswax and roll it around an existing candle? Or painted a candle to the right color? Success or failure stories?

One year I only had the energy to get white candles. So, I just cut purple/rose ribbon and tied it around.

You could also use the colored beeswax to decorate a plain taper.

Sorry, I am not more help. However, I am very interested in finding some too!!!

I do hope to make my own dipped candles someday, but it won't be this year.

We have some hefty white beeswax candles that my dh got with his advent wreath that was a house warming gift. I think they came from a source that supplies them for use in Churches. We have not necessarily used it as much as those here would, but the candles are 9 years old!

We also tied pink and purple ribbons to the white candles.

Today I bought candles from the Hallmark store. Two sets (6 violet/2rose) for $5.95. And they are a bit more vividly colored than the more pastel ones I've seen a lot in the last couple of years. Yankee Candle also has some, but I didn't check the price.

Peace,
Nancy

I swung by Yankee tonight. I went ahead and bought the set, they were $7.95. I liked these because they seem shorter than the cheapo ones I always end up with and I am always worried they are going to fall over because they are so tall. These are scentless (is that a word??).

They say they'll burn for 5hours. In my house, the candle is barely lit as the excitement seems to be who gets to blow it out. So these should last us. Too bad I don't have a Hallmark as close by as the Yankee shop.

Not beeswax, Waverley. I think you could get maybe one candle for $5.95 (okay, maybe a pair) if they were beeswax.

Peace,
Nancy

I googled, and they were on page 2. LOL

I kwym, though. There are a number of great resources for poured candles, though. I've gotten some (now blessed), but they are the "natural" color, so...not exactly what I need for Advent.

And after all, who *doesn't* like the smell of beeswax!?

LOL

Wow, Rachel! Those prices for the beeswax Advent Candles aren't bad at all! I'll need to remember that for next year. Thanks. You're right -- the smell of beeswax is wonderful.

Peace,
Nancy

Those are beautiful! I have bookmarked the site for next year. If anyone purchases these, could you post after you get them and let us know what you think?

Did anyone actually order the candles yet (Church Candles online)? The shipping seems exorbitant to me....with shipping they'll be $31.00--I hate when shipping is more than what I'm ordering! (that was UPS ground)

Or did I miss a cheaper alternative?

TIA!

That's what I ran into to with the shipping--perhaps they aren't used to doing small orders so they don't have small shipping options? I noticed the shipping was for 25 lbs, and I know candles don't weigh that much!

Maybe someone would organize a group order? That might save quite a bit.

Honeycomb Hollow in MA sells these:
http://www.honeycombhollowcandles.com/searchresult.aspx?Cate goryID=7 The tapers are 12" though and the shipping might be a little high.

They also charge a $5.00 fee for "low orders" so they definitely are in the business of selling in bulk. A group order might be the way to go next year.
