Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Had someone ask me this recently, and thought it would be interesting to see everyone's responses.

What is your favorite bible verse?

Hard to pick just one.........

Romans 3:12

All have gone astray; all alike are worthless; there is not one who does good, (there is not) even one
(or)
All have turned out of the way; they are become unprofitable together: there is none that doth good, there is not so much as one.

Gal 6:9 Let's not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest-if we do not give up.

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

For me, it's Jeremiah 1:5:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

My mother was encouraged by many to abort me, but she stood firm and gave birth to me and none of what she was told came true (she would die / be very sick, I would never survive, etc.) This verse was always important to me, and then when I found out I was pregnant with my 1st at 28 weeks -- this verse became even more important to me. That's why Colin's middle name is Jeremiah.

Matthew 6:34. Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

(used the Douay-Rheims version.. I love the sound of the older english)

From Psalm 46:
"Be still and know that I am God"

Mark 9:24:
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!"

Those are all awesome. I'm pretty boring. I still adore Proverbs 31...

Blessings,

Here's one of many:

Job 1:21
He said, "Naked I came forth from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall go back again; the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD."

Can you tell I've been pondering suffering?

edit to add:

Phillipians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Love,

I love the Prophet Isaiah, especially Isaiah 61 and its connection to Luke 4....

No matter how often I read it, it really touches me.

Psalm 23 - the most beautiful, poetic vision of Heaven anyone could imagine, and acknowledgement that God is with us now and always, even as we face death, our biggest fear. In the end, God sets out a banquet for us and we rejoice in His goodness. What beautiful reassurance!

And...Philippians 2:6-11 -

Because of this,
God greatly exalted [Christ Jesus]
and bestowed on him the name
which is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
of those in heaven and on earth
and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Philipians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

That is such a difficult question. The beatitudes have always been a comfort to me, so I guess I could pick those verses.

How about a top 5! That would be so much easier!

John 2:5 Do whatever He tells you.
I named my blog after this one.

John 6:55-56 My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me,and I live in them.

1 Thess 5: 16-18 Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.

Romas 12:2 Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind.

Tricia.

"Pray without ceasing." Thessalonians 5:17

This has helped me tremendously. Realizing all you do is a prayer when offered to Our Lord. ...The different kinds of prayer: thanksgiving, praise, petition, and intercession.

Anything in the book of Psalms! I usually like to look at the Responsorial Psalm from the mass on Sundays and meditate on it throughout the week.

Angie, I love both of yours. This one is the one I keep in mind as I design my curriculum.

This is one of my very favorites.

When I was a teen and was attending an evangelical church (I converted to Catholicism in college), I used to repeat this verse to myself over and over again:

1 Timothy 4:12 - "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." (This is the NIV translation, since that's all we used back then. )

I still think it's lovely, but not being quite as young anymore, it doesn't seem as fitting...

Me too, Rachel!

I'll also share one of my fondest CCM/4Real memories. I had this verse written on an index card and stuffed it in my pocket when I went to my one and only CCM gathering (organized in part by Donna H. in PA) ~7 years ago. I had just joined the CCM yahoolist but was still trying to figure out how to participate - I was slow to the online communication thing . Stef asked me to go to the CCM event and we had a blast. I met several CCM members in person and I distinctly remember listening to a chat with MacBeth. She mentioned this verse and I was thunder-struck! I pulled out my worn index card, stared at it, and knew that I had found my people! I wasn't alone in my desire to learn at home in a way that was outside of a box, outside of school expections, and was based on a joyful and fearless faith! God is so Good!

This verse is also how I explain my passion for baseball .

Love,

I love your index card, Angie. It just confirms for me that I am with my people too.
