Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

this but I really want to know so....what do you all mean when you say that you are offering up some crosses or sufferings for another person's prayer requests? I've never heard of that until I came here.

Thanks.

Oh thank you! Very interesting. That makes much more sense to me now.

So instead of asking God to take away the suffering, you are accepting it joyfully for whatever petition you may be praying for??

Vanna - The idea of redemptive suffering is a difficult one to explain.

Catechism of the Catholic Church #307 wrote:
"...God thus enables men to be intelligent and free causes in order to complete the work of creation, to perfect its harmony for their own good and that of their neighbors. Though often unconscious collaborators with God's will, they can also enter deliberately into the Divine Plan by their actions, their prayers, and their sufferings. They then fully become "God's fellow workers" and co-workers for His Kingdom.

Catechism of the Catholic Church #618 wrote:
The Cross is the unique sacrifice of Christ, the "one mediator between God and men." But, because in His Incarnate Divine Person He has in some way united Himself to every man, "the possibility of being made partners, in a way known to God, in the Paschal mystery" is offered to all men...

Colossians 1:24 wrote:
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.

1 Corinthians 3:9 wrote:
For we are God's fellow workers...

Scott Hahn explains it very well...Making Sense Out of Suffering
