I need a larger holy water container for home. Those little plastic bottles are used up in just one day when we fill up the fonts, and I'd like to store some larger amounts of holy water at home.

My mother used to reuse dishwashing liquid bottles (labels removed and marked well), but a priest friend said it wasn't in good taste.

I found this brilliant idea (although use caution at this site). Is that a Crown Royal bottle? What kind is that?

But anyone else have suggestions? I want a container to hold more, but I also want a container my son can use to fill up the fonts at home.

Ideas, suggestions?

Ummmmm I have been using an old peanut butter jar for about 11 years now, but you're making me re-think that. It's what we had. We were young and had very little money. I cleaned out the peanut butter jar. It worked. Pours nicely.

I do keep one of those tiny bottles in every room of the house. I sprinkle liberally in times of angst, anger and arguing and especially after bad dreams, but the peanut butter jar fills the holy water fonts.

I can see how a glass bottle would be much better. Maybe I should keep an eye out for a pretty bottle from the thrift store...or I wonder if my in-laws have a centuries old liquor bottle I could swipe. Interesting idea.

We have given nice decanters (I think that's what they are called) as baptism gifts for the godchild to keep the water from their baptism. I hadn't thought of just keeping one for our use around the house, but it sounds like a great idea - I was actually just thinking today that I'd like to keep more on hand.

Well, the bottle pictured is "Amoretto di Amore" which I don't have in my liquor cabinet. I can't think of other "brands" that might fit the bill, so I think I'll tour my liquor store for bottle ideas. Then I'll post on Freecycle for any empty bottles. That's a start.

We purchased a 3gallon water bottle...like the kind you would use to bring to a store to buy your purified water. I then just pour it into smaller containers/fonts as needed.

I have it clearly labeled and I keep in in my pantry.

With this quantity I had our Priest bless it separately, I didn't want to drain the dispenser that they have in the back of church.
