Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do Jesse Trees have to be any particular shape, or can we just make the symbols and hang them my 2 ft. potted evergreen?

It can be whatever you want. We used to do it on a miniature artificial tree, also our little indoor evergreen tree, posterboard, felt, etc. Domestic Church has another way with dowels, and I've seen potted branches, too.

For a few years we used a small bare tree branch that we spray painted silver. A couple of years ago it fell apart, and now we are just using a small artificial tree.

Traditionally it was a bare branch - and we have simply gathered a forlorn looking stick with a few branches from the backyard when we were still doing things that way.

My dh didn't like waiting until Christmas eve to put up the tree and I wanted to keep Advent and wait on the tree. My dh had a point in that waiting until that point meant we got extra frenzied trying to do everything Christmas Eve. Our compromise was to use our Christmas tree as the base of the Jesse tree and gradually add the Jesse ornaments until Christmas Eve, when we then added our final, very special Christmas ornaments. It is not quite as traditional but it does visually illustrate the stump of Jesse sprouting and since it helps us to be more reflective during Advent, it has become our family tradition.

So I guess the answer depends on how strictly traditional you want to be.
