Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I posted in Mother Nurture a general post that I have just come home to raise my girls, ages 15 mo and 4 yo. Specifically I'm needing some advice about developing their faith life. Currently we pray the Prayer Before Meals and we all hold hands (the little one will get upset if we don't do this, and sometimes she wants to do it twice during the meal!) My 4yo prays it with us and also does the Sign of the Cross. Besides that, all we really do is go to Mass on Sunday. I'd like to know what you all do or would do with children at this age.

Thanks in advance!

I was going to suggest the same book! I totally agree, Guiding Your Catholic Preschooler is a gentle, non-overwhelming book to give you ideas on how to integrate the faith in your home. Remember to keep it all small steps!

Here are some thoughts I had:

Reading aloud together Bible stories, beautiful religious pictures books is one very great way to do it. Many of Cay's Catholic Mosaic suggestions are super for the young ones.

I think the key element to remember when you have littles is they are watching you and your dh. YOU need to set the example of living and prayer life, and have them see it.

Pray the rosary (or a decade) and ask them to join you. Incorporate visual aids or manipulatives to help join in understanding the mysteries of the rosary (Kathryn's Rosary Boxes and Rosary Cards, Rosary prints to display.).

Play beautiful religious music as a background; sing hymns or chant for lullabies; talk about the saint of the day, showing pictures of the saint.

If you have EWTN, it's lovely to play some of the rosary or Divine Mercy chaplet periodically. I find my son singing or praying along when it's on, even when I'm not there.

We say our morning prayers with breakfast, which includes a simple morning offering and Angel of God prayer. Night prayer comes after bath as a family, before reading and lights out.

My son didn't know the prayers when we started. Just saying them out loud together he learned them over time.
