Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have the Lesson Plans for the Baltimore Catechism from Little Flowers Family Apostolate?

I'm considering using it next year for Balt. Catechism 1 and 2.

I'd love opinions...

I've ordered them, but they are on backorder and have been for 6 months! If I were you, I would contact them first to find out if/when they'll be available if you plan to use them anytime soon. I'd love to get them in time for next year's schooling! I've heard they'll be ready by then, but who knows? Usually I have no trouble ordering with the Little Flowers Family Apostolate, they have such wonderful materials. I don't know why it's been so long this time.

God bless,
Christine

OH NO!

I'm so glad you mentioned that Christine! I'm going to call and see what the status is on these books. I really wanted to use them next year as well.

I'm really glad to hear that you like the LFFA. I have a few more things of theirs I was hoping to order.

Thanks for the heads-up!

If you hear anything about the status, please let me know

I do have some of their other products if you need any more reviews I'm always willing to help. I just get so bummed when I order something and it's nothing like I had hoped (which is WAY too often ). That's one reason I appreciate this forum so much.

God bless,
Christine

Me too, Christine!

I called, but had to leave a message. I'll update when I hear from them.

Here's hoping...

Christine -
I just spoke to Rita. She was so kind and helpful. They have been having enormous printing issues. It has caused a major disruption in their entire business/apostolate, so much so that they have considered closing their doors. They have received an outpouring of support from their patrons though. They plan to try to resolve the issue, and I know they'd very much like to. She asked for prayers as the family is under financial stress right now because of their printing situation (a situation which is not of their making, but in order to continue in their apostolate they must now try to resolve.)

Anyway, the Lesson Plans for the Catechism...

Book 1 is complete, and were it not for the printing problems they could ship tomorrow. She hopes to have them out in the next few weeks.

Books 2 and 3 are complete save the covers. It is a simple thing to finish, but again she said...the printing problems are holding up the process. She sincerely hopes to have them out by early fall. She is aware that many would like to use them for the next year.

I know you've already purchased yours, but in case anyone else is reading and is interested...here are the options she offered -

Wait and purchase one volume at a time at an increased cost. I think the individual volumes are at $18.95 now, and will be going up to $21.95 after release.

Wait and purchase the entire set together - a savings over buying them separately, but still at an increase. The price after release will be $51.95 for the 3 volume set.

Pre-purchase now at a pre-release cost of $49.95 for the 3 volumes. That would save a total of $15.90 if you waited and purchased individual volumes separately.

I'm sad that they are undergoing such difficulty. I assured her of my prayers. I'm going to order the set now, and perhaps offer the suggestion that as an interim fix they offer or make available a pdf of some of their works - sort of an ebook solution. I don't know if they are open to this suggestion or not - just don't want to lose all of their work because of printing problems.

What are in these lesson plans? Do they elaborate on the Catechism, fleshing it out, or a plan to follow what questions and supplementing?

Jennifer:

Are you interested in weaving the Baltimore catechism with other things like Faith and Life or are you looking for hands on type activities or suggestions to go with them? I'm not familiar with the plans you linked. However, I have plans from Kolbe and they weave Baltimore catechism in with Faith and Life - basically all it does for me is give me a sequence to start with. We simply make flash cards for the lesson on colorful index cards. Those who are able and not frustrated by copying, copy the question on one side of the card and the answer on the other. I do it for the others and they become self checking cards. Then we use those for games or study depending on the nature of the child and the need. (We study no more than 5 at a time and add in slowly as things become more permanent in memory). I do discuss with each child as we read so this is one subject with a lot of mom involvement. I tried to set aside every Friday for catechism review. I don't know if this is what you are looking for or something a bit more hands on.

Anyways, I don't know if you are ordering Kolbe for the Lit plans. You'll get some guidance (restricted to mainly sequencing) on the Catechims (depending on the age for level) if you have their theology plans. I have tried to weave in CGS (introducing new presentation where it fits with the rest of our studies) materials between Faith and Life and Baltimore Catechism. Don't know if this helps you or not.

This is the description of these lesson plans from the Little Flowers Family Apostolate:

Quote:
Provides an outline for every day of the month. Designed not only to present the Catechism in a more interesting way, but also to help the work of the busy teacher as follows:

Every Q & A from the Catechism given, and every theological phrase defined. Supplemented with examples, explanations and references from Bible History, Liturgy, Lives of the Saints, and Church History. No other volume is needed, all is contained in these pages!

Divided into units so you can wisely gauge the work for each day, without the monotony of covering the same material. Preparation is less than five minutes for a thorough Catechism lesson.

I was intrigued with the way in which this was laid out, with a lesson for the day including the catechism questions. I'll use Baltimore Catechism with all of the chidren, but I'm using Baltimore Catechism #2 for my primary spine for Confirmation prep this year. I liked that the lesson plans cross reference the liturgy, Bible history and Church history, and the lives of the saints. It looked intriguing anyway. I thought about ordering, but I think caution would be the better route here since the company isn't sure about finances or even printing ability.

I don't use the B. Catechism exclusively. I do use CGS a good bit to cement as well as a good bit of reading on Church History, Lives of the Saints, our liturgical year activities and then there's good 'ole Faith and Life, which I also have and use (that draws heavily from the Catechism.) I don't feel I'm lacking really. I was really just looking for a set of lesson plans that might coordinate the Baltimore Catechism and provide me with a bit more background in one handy-dandy book.

I just got an email saying these lesson plans are finally ready to ship.

Has anyone seen a sample page? I am just not comfortable ordering an expensive "lesson plan" resource without first getting a look at the format and content.

I also got the message they were ready, and am wondering the same thing about getting a look at a sample. The price listed on the website has gone up considerably over what you mentioned in June, Jen. That must be due to the printing issues. But I'm confused because in her email it has them listed as $9 per grade, so don't know exactly what the deal is.

Wow! What timing. We are using the Baltimore Catechism in our CCD program this year. I had no idea there were lesson plans out there.
