Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone tell me where I can find out what the norms are for Adoration?

Thank you so much!

Hmmm...what do you mean exactly? Rubrics for Exposition and Benediction, or rules for private devotion?

I mentioned in another thread Ceremonies of the Modern Roman Rite: The Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours by Peter J. Elliott as a great reference tool.

Also this Roman Rite site.

But particular questions, Catholic Answers, Adoremus and/or Catholics United for the Faith would be other sources of information.

In addition to all the uncomfortable things that went on at my dd's Confirmation retreat, (that I blogged about the other day)
they did bring out Our Lord and
had Him in the Monstrance on the altar in the chapel
where we were. They had everyone kneel only at the
beginning and the end. At the end they prayed FOR the
kids with kinda loud music...adoration in tone by some
Catholic artist (obviously something that would appeal
to teens) The young seminarians were putting skits on
in front of the altar and part of the skits there were
some off-color comments (like coaxing a young man to
join in their party and a young woman waiting just for
him etc..maybe adding more than they needed to...alluding to her intentions for him Iykwim)
The seminarian was talking to the kids the whole time
and of course he was walking back and forth with his
back to the altar and all. Is this allowed??

Honestly, 'I' had a hard time remembering that Jesus was behind him...we were just viewing what was going on and not participating in any kind of prayerful or reflective time except for a few moments at the very beginning. I want to learn more about what went on so I can take my concerns to the DRE and the pastor. We were told that we needed some kind of spiritual preparation for Confirmation and this was MANDATORY for everyone...all they were doing was pushing their agenda assuming all people were in "pain" they had to choose Christ or they would never be happy but not giving them any kind of time to reflect or pray in anything other than a quick thought in God's direction.

Thanks for any and all help!

God love you!

I am writing with some reservation because I can't find exact documents that give precise requirements. There's a lot of leeway.

Now Msgr. Elliott's book Ceremonies of the Modern Roman Rite: The Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours does mention somethings, you can read part of the excerpt at Google Books. But he doesn't footnote his sources in these paragraphs, so I'm not sure if he's taking this from a source, or this is his opinion.

I would try Catholic Answers Forum or CUF for precise answers. I understand your frustration. The problem I see is that people were trying to be sincere, some aren't out and out abuses, and it's tricky to complain. Praying for you, Donna.
