Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone comment on any of the following books...
were they helpful in preparing your child for their First Holy Communion?
1--100 Activities Based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church
2&3--First Communion and
First Confession--from stfrancisbooks.com
4--Come to Mass
5--Exploring the Mass (from CHC)

Also, where can you find 100 Activites Based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and also Come to Mass?
Thank you
Love,
Margaret

Hi Margaret,

I have 100 Activities Based on the Catechism...but have never used it much. It is a good resource but is geared more to Sunday school settings as it is a workbook and good for "busy work." That said, if you have a child who likes worksheets, this book is a good option for reinforcement!

I found it easily at amazon.com.

I haven't used any of the other titles...I have a good amount of other FHC and First Confession books that I use. It is such a lovely time in a young one's life. This year is my third time to prepare one of my kids; it's my little boy's turn this time!

100 Activities Based on the Catechism is the only book from the above that I've seen. I only used it a couple of times, and not for First Communion prep. I agree with Jennifer -- workbook that is good for busy work.

Margaret, like the others, I've only seen the first book. The two from StFrancisbooks.com I have not seen, but look pretty good. I'm excited to see a reprint of "The Seven Sacraments" as I had that book growing up.

Where can I find "Come to Mass"?

Margaret,
I have 100 Activities based on the Catechism...I agree with the others in that it is Sunday schoolish, workbooky.

I also purchased Exploring the Mass from CHC last year, and was disappointed. It too is just a Sunday school type workbook. I didn't use it for my FHC preparing ds, instead used it with my then 5th grader. I'm not saying that the content wasn't there, just that I don't prefer a workbook style, sort of disjointed way of going through things. I am not using it this year to prepare my son.

I'm a huge fan of all that CHC offers for First Holy Communion Preparation and use these books pretty much exclusively.

I've never heard of "Come to Mass." I googled it and couldn't come up with anything either.
