Is it wrong to wear a Rosary around your neck? So many children like to do that, but I'm not sure of the "etiquette." Does anybody know for sure? Thanks! :-)

It is not wrong. In fact, it is a very old custom in Spain and Portugal (among others). There was some concern about it bc. irreligious people were wearing them as necklaces (eg, "Madonna" a while ago).

It is certainly fine for kids--mine do it all the time! And I've seen devout women wearing them too. In that case, its certainly a statement of devotion.

A couple of years ago I saw a picture of the singer Bono of U2 and he was wearing a rosary around his neck. I knew he was a religious person but I didn't know if it was really OK to wear a rosary. I feel better now.

My Dh is half Mexican, on his Mother's side, and they wear their Rosaries around their necks all the time and then when passing a Catholic Church make the sign of the cross and kiss the crucifix. I think it is a beautiful religious custom!
