Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter is in tears trying to write small enough answers to fit in the space provided in the 2nd grade Faith and Life activity book. It would require small writing for a second grader - has anyone else had this problem?

Yes! And my kids hate when they don't give you lines!

You can either a) let her write the answers on a separate piece of paper or b) sometimes I wrote the answer for them using their words, of course. I figure they get enough writing practice in their other subjects and religion is the one subject that I don't want them to get frustrated about. Sometimes we will just do the lesson orally and I write that on the top of the page.

Hope it helps.

If I were using F&L in my home (I use it for CCD), I wouldn't have the kids do the assignments in the activity book -- except for the "fun" puzzles or drawing things.... the ones that are basically checking to see if the chapter was read, I would have the kids do a narration and put it in a booklet for them to keep ...

You have to remember tat F&L is definitely for a class setting where the teacher needs to know if the kids read it ... at home, you know whether or not they understood the reading thru narration, or drawing a picture or just telling you....

Hope that helps.

We do it orally, this has the added bonus of promting discussion. I write little tidbits of our discussion on each line. FWIW, this is with my 3rd grader. Just looking at the little lines overwhelms him!

Oh, good! I just need to know when to let up on the first born - such a problem I have! We have done some of the suggestions (orally, I write for her) but today at noon I was busy feeding the baby, making lunch, scooping squash, doing laundry, etc. and just so wanted her to be able to complete the page on her own. Matilda, you are so right that religion is not the subject we want our kids to get frustrated with! Thanks for the reminders!
