Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello. I hope this belongs here. I was thinking particularly of Jenn here because she loves those old Catholic books.

Anyway, today at a library sale I found a book called Mere Marie of the Ursulines by Agnes Repplier. Has anyone ever read or heard of this book? It was published in 1931 and was only 10 cents, so I felt it was worth the "risk." So, before I have to read it, does anyone know about it or the author?

Thanks so much!

God bless,

Hi Kristen!

No, I can't say I've heard or read it. I'm also not familiar with the publisher Literary Guild.

But I'd be curious to hear your assessment. I like reading about the Ursulines.

I haven't yet read this book, but I bought an old, old copy this summer. We visited Quebec and it was in a used book store there. Also, I was able to visit the Urusline church and museum, which was lovely and fascinating. I knew nothing about this order or its work before that.

Mere Marie's body is in a sarcophagus in that church and people come there to seek her intercession; she is somewhere along the road to canonization (just looked it up -- she is Ven. Marie de l'Incarnation).

I also searched Half.com for Agnes Repplier and found a number of other great sounding titles by and about her.

Peace,
Nancy

I just read the first chapter last night. What a wonderful book with plenty of rabbit trails. The chapter had to do with St. Ursula and this history of the order. Not only was it good reading, but it was filled with churches and names of painting and their artists that have painted her legend. I loved St. Ursula as a little girl because her feast day was my birhtday. This first chapter has shed a new light on her and the order that bears her name. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book. When looking through used books, if I come across this author's books, they would most likely go home with us (if the price is right

God bless,
