Can you share any recipes, meal plans for tomorrow? We do love hummus. Anything else we can serve which might be child friendly?

I'm 'stealing' Elizabeth's idea and we will be having Chai tea and Indian Sweet Bread. I was thinking of ordering take out from a local Indian restaurant, but I don't know. I'd love to hear other ideas.

I was just at Harris Teeter's and in the International section they had some conveniencey type Indian foods. I got a packaged rice thing (I was literally racing as I had like 6.8minutes to do the shopping before we had to get back to pick up ds from speech therapy).
I don't know who'll eat it...but I'll offer and hopefully we'll get some nibbles!
They had other Indian inspired foods...but you know, the 6.8minutes thing kept me from being too picky. So there is probably a lot more to select from!

I think we're going whole hog with the Indian meal... chicken tikka, naan bread, rice...

I think I might make Matilda's cake instead of the sweetbread. We won't get to it until Thursday, I don't think...well, maybe...we'll see...

Fun topic ladies!
Last Friday, an Indian man from dh's work sent us a big meal home, he thinks it is so special and interesting that we have all of the small children. He and his wife made a wonderful meal of curried flavoured bulgar, and chicken, with a wonderful sauce. It was terribly hot, we drank lots of water with it. But even our little ones ate it. What a pleasure.
Okay, need to put my thinking cap on for some kind of wonderful Indian food. We made chapatti in the winter when we did a unit study on Breads of the World.
Thanks for the recipes Matilda and Lisa!
P.S. One of dh's favourite Christian Apologist's is Ravi Zaccharias, he describes a tradition that they have in their family where they eat a meal sitting ont he floor, from a large dish, with their fingers! He said that this is a traditional Indian feast, anyone do this? He describes what an incredible unifying family moment it is for them. It had us intrigued anyway.

These are all great recipes. Unfortunately, my oven is still broken , so I'm not able to make most of these, but I can definately make Lisa's Indian sweet bread
I found this spicy Indian lentil soup. I'll serve it over rice, which we eat almost every day.
One more question What's Chai Tea?

It is a spiced black tea. Chai is the name of the flavor like Earl Grey or Peppermint. The brand I have contains black tea, rooibos, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, chicory, cloves, black pepper and star anise seed.
Very yummy!

I don't see why not since they are just spices, not herbs. I would go for a decaf version just to avoid too much caffeine for the little guy. The Rooibos is an African herb but here is what I found about it regarding pregnancy:
In South Africa, the drink of choice of expectant mothers is Rooibos "Red" tea. This caffeine-free herbal infusion has been shown to soothe the body's reaction to allergy and rashes (At an herbal store, you'll probably find Rooibos under the name "Herbal Allergy tea" due to this natural allergy-fighting quality). Recent studies have shown that Rooibos tea may also have a significant amount of antioxidants (health-inducing compounds), comparable to those found in green tea.
The "spices" are not "spicy", just very flavorful. It reminds me of a pumpkin pie with a little black pepper thrown in which doesn't sound very appetizing, but it is. The Tazo brand is the one I like best. I prefer it over Chamomile when I want to unwind... there again... the decaf version!

Ruth,
i made a chai tea mix that I found at allrecipes.com and I used decaf instant tea. Maybe that would work for you! It is delicious, too!
I would add though, that both times we were in India, chai tea wasn't served, or on the menus. I thought that was interesting.
We will be drinking "Indian tea" as the kids call it, and making sweet bread or naan.

Or you can make Lakror, since Bl. Teresa's parents were Albanian.

I just made this spicy Indian lentil soup. It is the best lentil soup we've ever had. The combination of jalapenos, garlic, onions and cilantro are incredible!!! It's actually not very spicy. I highly recommend this recipe.

FYI on the Albanian Walnut Cake:
The recipe doesn't tell you when to add the walnuts. I stirred them in right before I poured it into the pan.
Also, I followed the directions for the glaze, but it still was very runny. I let it boil longer and it didn't thicken up any. I let it cool a bit and it still wasn't any thicker. So I went a different route with the glaze.
I took about 1/8 C. of the syrup and added some powdered sugar to it so the flavor wasn't missed. The syrup made it stickier than normal but the spices and lemon were a lovely compliment to the cake. If I were going to make it again, I would skip the simmering part and just use the lemon juice (maybe half juice/half water) and spices to make a regular powdered sugar glaze.
UPDATE: I just realized that the recipe I linked to is not the same one I printed out and the linked to recipe does actually tell you when to add the walnuts. The instructions for the glaze are still the same though.

Same thing happened to me. I printed out this recipe with no mention of the walnuts.
BTW, Matilda, I just went to your blog. I've been missing a treasure!! I quickly looked at your Coffee Tea and Thee category. My goodness. Such original & creative ideas.
I plan to visit more thoroughly ASAP.

Thank you so much!
That was the recipe I printed! Did you try the glaze?
