Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm some what ashamed to admit that I don't know the differance between Feast Days and memorials as they appear on my Columban Calendar.
Also, when white is the liturgical colour, why?
And why are there two calendars with diff. saints on each?
Sorry for all the questions and for my ignorance.
Tricia

To understand the hierarchy of feast days in the calendar, this document is a very good start.

This site has an explanation of the liturgical colors.

The answer to your question about multiple saints on one day is a bit more involved. Usually the day a saint dies is their "birthday" into heaven, and usually designated as their feast day. There are many, many canonized saints recognized by the Church. You can find many of them listed in the official book Roman Martyrology, which has several feasts and saints listed for each day of the year.

The Church then makes a Universal General Roman Calendar, compiled of saints and feasts that have universal appeal. Then there are those for each country, that include saints from local areas or interest for that population. There are other calendars, such as for religious orders, and special feast observed by dioceses or parishes for their patronal feasts.

The days that several saints are listed, they are all optional memorials, and the priest can choose one of the saints (or none) for the Mass of the day. Other rankings of feasts -- Solemnity, Feast, Memorial -- would not have several choices, and would have to be celebrated.

I'm sure this is confusing, so ask away any more questions. And perhaps someone else can explain more lucidly.
