Does anyone have this book? How does it compare to this one?
Thanks!

I have the Benson one. It is very old fashioned and lovely. The verses are much longer per alphabet letter than in the Nippert book. I would say the second book is geared more for toddlers and preschoolers while the Benson book can be appreciated by even the older child. (I still enjoy reading it at 37! :)

Excerpt from the Benson book:
A is Antony of Padua, a Friar wise and kind;
He never had a penny, but he never seemed to mind;
He was very fond of reading, but the book he read the most
Was the book that tells of God, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost;
He was very fond of children. but the Child he loved the best
Was the little Infant Jesus. as He lay on Mary's breast;
And once when he was reading with the gospel on a stand
Little Jesus stood upon it and caressed him with His hand.
Now that Antony's in Heaven, if you ever lose your toys,
I advise you to invoke him, for he's good to girls and boys.
The Benson book has lovely black and white drawings to illustrate each saint that look like very detailed coloring pages.
The Nippert book has colorful illustrations that are slightly "cartoonish" but very sweet.
Here is an excerpt:
Good Saint Anne was Mary's Mom,
she reaised her full of love.
One day her daughter was to bear
a gift from Heaven above.
Tradition tells us that Mary's parents were Anne and Joachim and they dedicated their daughter to God. They were Jesus' grandparents.[/]
They are apples and oranges if you ask me. I like them both. I agree with Rebecca's assessment of age ranges.

Thank you so much, Rebecca and Matilda!! Your descriptions are very helpful. I think I'm going to have to go ahead and get both!

I was going to say, I only have the Nippert book (purchased it at the 4Real Conference ), and my boys LOVE it. Of course they are 4 and not quite 3, so that could be part of it. The poems that go along with each saint are just short enough that they want to listen to it all before moving on to the next page. I'm not sure (and maybe I'm underestimating them) that they would sit through the whole book if I was reading the longer poems associated with each saint. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks very much for your response too, Cindy--I appreciate your chiming in. I think the Nippert will be perfect for my two little ones now, and I'll buy the other for when they're older. (Actually, it sounds like I'll enjoy it myself! )
