I just wrote a post on Vestments, their meanings and pictures, which can be used for a Mass unit study. Most of this is explained in the book "Know Your Mass", which I wrote about yesterday.
Vestments and their meanings

This is great.
Question: the maniple. I've never seen this. Do all priests wear it? Is it underneath where it cannot be seen?

Very few in the new rite wear it, though they can. Only the ultra high sensibilities priests, like Oratorians, would.

I would have agreed with you because I've never seen it until yesterday. We have a new associate in our parish and he wears the fiddleback vestments and maniple on his left arm. With the fiddleback one can see the maniple. I think the Roman vestments you wouldn't be able to. I think it's evolved over time, as it's more decorative, matching the chasuble, and not a handkerchief.

Oh, I forgot to mention it was an ordinary rite (Novus Ordo) Mass, not the extraordinary rite.

Serial posting, sorry.
I was going to recommend a few resources to add on to your unit study, but I now have learned that I need to check bookfinder.com to see the going rate of OOP books. I bought these books at a reasonable price, but it seems they are in high demand now.
Anyway, Rt. Rev. John F. Sullivan, D.D. wrote two books that I just love.
The Externals of the Catholic Church: Her Government, Ceremonies, Sacramentals, Festivals and Devotions (1918)
The Visible Church (A Textbook for Catholic Schools) (1920)
Both are similar, with black line drawings. The vestments and Mass articles are great.
There's a modern treatment, but I can't find it readily available for sale. The book was written by Janice Smyth, founder of Our Lady of the Rosary School, called Preparing for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. There's an excerpt here on vestments, but it doesn't include the drawings, which are again black line done by her daughter.
ETA: The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd does a great treatment on Mass articles, nomenclature, liturgical colors, vestments, etc. The Mass Explained to Children by Maria Montessori is a great resource, and the price is much less than the original $25.
Anyway, I love your unit study!

Thank you for these recommendations, Jenn. I haven't heard of most of these before. We'll see how this goes. I have never done unit studies before, so I don't really know what I'm doing.
