I'm home for an hour, on break from my parish's Italian Festival in honor of St. Anthony of Padova. We began with Mass and a procession. Here's what our associate pastor had to say during his homily:

One of his friends, who didn't believe in the concept of saintly intercession, was on a road trip of some kind with a priest friend (Father Kevin, a friend of our associate pastor) and another friend. Father Kevin was in the back seat. For whatever reason, the friend who didn't believe in saints had a holy card along, one that he always placed on his dashboard when he drove. It was a rainy day. One of the men opened a window and the holy card flew out into the rain on a gust of wind.

Needless to say, the friend was very unhappy. Father Kevin and the other gentleman suggested praying for St. Anthony to intercede to find the lost holy card. The friend said something to the effect of, that's ridiculous, it blew out the window onto a rainy roadside. Nevertheless, he finally agreed to pray and the three men asked St. Anthony to intercede for the discovery of the holy card.

At the end of the trip, the friend returned home. On his dresser in his bedroom, he found:

The holy card, dripping wet.

What a wonderful story! I have had some *amazing* St. Anthony experiences. One time we couldn't find dh's driver's license. I called motor vehicles and they said there was absolutely no way to replace it without a copy of his birth certificate that had an embossed seal on it. We didn't have such a thing and I knew it would take 7 weeks to get one from the New York City bureaucracy. There was nothing to do in the meantime, as they wouldn't give me something like a reference number indicating we had reported a lost license; for the intervening weeks he would be driving without a license and subject to tickets, fines, etc. if he were caught. I hung up the phone from having been told all of this and just started to cry. It seemed so ridiculous and I was so frustrated. Then I said to myself, "Wait. Don't cry. Ask St. Anthony." I prayed then and there. For no apparent reason, I got up from praying and walked into the closet, went to a jacket my husband hadn't worn in 6 months (and I had seen his license in the meantime), put my hand in the jacket pocket, and retrieved his driver's license. I thought, "Miracles do happen!"

Lovely story - we had the nine days of Masses for the St Anthony Novena in our parish, and then Mass and the blessing of bread on St Anthony's feast day. Our family has a special devotion to St Anthony - my dh, his brothers and all our sons have Anthony as one of their names.
