Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We read this little book today in honor of St. Joseph's Feast day. I wanted to show my kids where exactly Capistrano was and this was the best map I could find with all of the misisons. Maybe you will find it helpful too. Map of missions in California

I LOVE the California missions. Growing up in SF, you HAD to study them (and still do, even in the public schools!!!!!) and find out all about the whys and wherefores. Now, even though the teaching of these is pretty secularized and a bit PC, they're still fascinating to study and marvel at just what those poor Franciscans did to evangelize and colonize California.

When dh and I got married we spent some time driving from Solano down to San Diego -- stopping at most of these missions on the way. What a wonderful unit study you could create around Song of the Swallows!

I love Song of the Swallows! When we moved to California (Mt Shasta area) when I was a kid, we were able to visit several missions including Capistrano on my birthday/Feast of St Joseph and I saw a swallow!

Has anyone found some online audio recordings of the songs in the book?

No, and believe me I spent a few hours last night looking . Only found "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano" and a very different Spanish song titled "La Golondrinas" - it didn't have the same words.

Whew, I am relieved, although disappointed. I played both on the piano, but the first is harder to get the tune and tempo down...the second catchier and easier. But I spent about an hour and came up short and thought maybe I wasn't using the right search terms.
