Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I posted this on our local list, but in case anyone will be in the area, or anyone feels like taking a drive across the river to the Queens/Long Island area over the next few weeks, Libby is playing the 2nd violin part for Rutter's Requiem in these five performances:

9/16 Sat 7:30 PM @ St. Rose of Lima (Massapequa)

9/17 Sun 4 PM @ St. Kevin's (Flushing)

9/22 Fri 8 PM @ St. Brigid's (Westbury)

9/23 Sat 7:30 PM @ St. Clare's (Rosedale)

9/29 Fri 8 PM @ Our Lady of Grace (West Babylon)

The requiem, written in 1985, and is just wonderful, with haunting dark passages, and uplifting hopeful passages. There are movements in Latin and in English, and of course the Kyrie is Greek. The vocal soloists are amazing, and the concerts are all free!

(FYI, St. Kevin's is probably the easiest to get to, and the earliest, so it will still be light out...I heard rehearsal there tonight and it sounded magnificent!)

Listen to bits via Amazon.

MacBeth,

I LOVE that piece! The junior and senior choir did it w/ full orchestra when I was a freshman in high school...I was in awe...then, when I was a junior, we did Rutter's Gloria!

Wish I was close enough to see your daughter perform...I'm sure she will do wonderfully!

Dawn

We were actually able to SING with John Rutter while we still lived in England. This church was absolutely PACKED with ladies and men and we sang the rafters right off of it. Though none of those of us who were in the little church choir new any of the songs but one, we enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Ah, now that's the wonderful thing about some modern composers...they are still around!
