Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am interested this year in taking some time to learn the history of the Nutcracker Ballet with my dc.

My library is woefully lacking in books, and even dvds, on this topic.

So I am wondering if any of you have ever tackled this subject, and what your favorite resources were. On line and free is good , though I could swing buying a book or dvd to supplement....

I have not done a really fleshed out unit, but have done a bit with picture books and some crafts and obviously music. I need to dig out my picture book list. For years I have been reviewing all the new ones that come out. There are some beautiful versions.

Ohh- that looks great, Jenn. Thanks!

We have been reading various Nutcracker books from the library- comparing different versions and illustrations. Right now we are reading "Noelle of the Nutcracker", which everyone is liking.

DD is dancing in the Nutcracker soon- so this is very timely

After Ellie mentioned on her blog about Saint-Saens's Danse Macabre by Anna Harwell Celenza I thought I would check out other books by the same author.

Our library had this book, including a cd:
Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite by Anna Harwell Celenza, illustrated by Don Tate.

I thought it might be interesting contrast for your study.
