Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can you help guide me....which mediums do I want for my group of littles? I'm looking at Prismacolor items (boxes of 12) so I can match colors between mediums.

Colored Pencils
Art Stix
NuPastels
Pastels
Watercolor Pencils

I would like better crayons too, but Prismacolor doesn't make crayons????

For little people, my brand of choice is Prang - affordable and good quality! Dick Blick carries a nice selection of Prang materials and is my art supply store of choice (mainly because it's much easier for me to order online than to have to take the little people into a craft store....otherwise Michael's or Joann's would be a good option to use their coupons!)

Prang crayons are a nice quality and I actually prefer them to Crayola. They seem to have a smoother, richer color quality. And they are NOT expensive at all!!! They do break easily which is a drawback, but this year we bought the Prang Crayograph and they are much more sturdy in terms of breakage in small hands!

Art mediums that we use regularly:

** crayon - Prang
** color pencil - Prang
** watercolor pencil - Prang
** watercolor cakes - Prang
** markers (reg. and metallic) - Prang
** modeling clay

Now, we do use other mediums, but these see regular use! Older children have some higher quality art materials like Grumbacher watercolors and Derwent and Prismacolor pencils, but Prang is our everyday choice, especially for littles.

Next year, we'd like to try the payon which is a crayon that you can wet brush and it turns into watercolor!

I was thinking of this post last week especially since we had just worked on our Mardi Gras masks and then again earlier this week during "art time". Maybe paint isn't what your thinking in terms of medium but it gets regular use with my littles whom are still getting the hang of good motor skills. Your little ones are about the age of my mine so I thought I'd mention it.

For the four and two year old I love to give them Dot Paint. It isn't messy and they don't just make dots with them. They actually have learned to "brush the paint on" with them. And when they combine it with the other medium mentioned it makes for a nice art piece . They love the shimmer in the ones I linked.

A little note on Prang materials. I shopped the clearance stuff at our Target right after the back to school rush and got some super deals on that brand. Needless to say I stocked our Art Supply cabinet. The drawing pads were priced at about a dollar (spiral bound).
